REFLECTION ABOUT PATIENTS WITH DEMENTIA

Caring for patients with dementia really is hard and needs a lot of patience and
understanding. They need help and support doing daily activities, especially changing
clothes and eating food. In the video I was amazed how the nurses help their patients,
they guide them in doing things like doing make up, eating or dressing up for the day.
They patients need to feel that they are safe and not violated by the nurse. They must
feel that the nurse is trusted and friendly for them to follow. And when talking to them
we need to be calm and repeat our question for them to understand.

REFLECTION ABOUT COMPASSION, DIGNITY AND RESPECT IN HEALTH CARE

As nurses we should treat our patients with respect, respect as patient and as a
human being. Our patients is like us a person that deserve the same respect they show
us or even if they don’t show proper respect to us, we still need show respect to them.
We also should maintain and preserve our patients dignity, they should feel safe and
secured in our care and in our hospital. In our communication skills and actions we
should show them compassion on what they are going through and to lessen their
worries and fear. We as nurses all have this 3 quality, we really value our patient like a
true family member and we should never forget this qualities.
 REFLECTION ABOUT PATIENT EMPATHY

To have a better communication and relationship with our patients it is natural

for us to show empathy. We show empathy to talk to them easily and for them to open
up about their fears, worries and problems. Also we can somehow lessen their worries,
fears and problems when we reassure them and explain to them the treatment they are
going through. We give them hope and we can put smile on their faces by just
understanding what they feel and relating to what they feel. The easiest way to show
empathy is to just listen, sometimes our patients or their family just want someone to
listen to them and understand them.

REFLECTION ABOUT CRANKY OLD MAN POEM

The poem is really heartwarming and made me cry. We truly don’t know what an
elderly thinks and how they feel. And in times that they are alone and think how is life
going to be. How they think of how lonely the world become and thinks of what other
people think about them. At the very end, we should treat our elderly like family. We
should show them love and care until the very end of their life. So that in their last
breath they feel that they have been part of this world and he/she will be remember.

INSIGHT ABOUT AGING

We should not be afraid of aging, age is just a number and as time past by we
learn more thing about ourselves. To truly understand ourselves we should all go
through aging. And because all of us are going to be undergoing the same way, we will
all get old. We should just enjoy life doing things we love and making people around us
feel loved and cared for. We should finish things that we know that are unfinished and
make misunderstanding better before it is too late.
