7 INTERNAL COATING “7.1 The pipe surface should be cleaned and primed in acogedance with the procedure given in 6.4.3 and 6.4.4. 7.2 The primed sige! surface to be enamelled shall be Gry and clean at the time the enamel is applied, The ‘enamel shall be coal tar conforming to the requirement of 8 9912, 73 The application of enamel, to the inside surface of all pipes shall be by centrifugal lining-by either trough method or retracting weir or feeline method. The temperature of the enamel on application shall be as recommended in 6.4.5.5. Care shall be taken to ensure that it ig at no time heated above the maximum ‘temperature recommended. 74 During application of enamel, the pipes shall be revolved al 2 speed best suited to produce a smooth ‘lossy lining of uniform thickness. Finished enamel lining shall be feee from wrinicles, sags, blsiers or low holes. 71S The thickness of the ling shalt be 2.4 mm and the variation in thickness shall not exceed 20.8 mara with glass fibre tissue. 7.6 All pieces of line pipe in which excessive rovah tess appoar or other ireguiarties exist shall be tipped off the entice lining and recoated, § DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS 4.1 The following factors should be considered before taking up the work of pipe coating/wrapping 8) Nature of soil ~The pipe coating system shall depend upon the type of soil (see 82), b)_ Past history of corrosion condition of the same pipeline of other pipelines running in that area, ©) Environment, 4) Pipe dimensions and material, ). Transport facilites, and Feasibility of providing eathodie protection 8.2 Thickness of coating shall be decided upon considering the degree of corrosivity of the soil. The coating system based upon the soil resistivity may be selocied on the following basis: Soil Resistivity Corrosivity Coating System fen Below 1000 Extremely 3 coutsand 3 wraps corrosive (7.0mm, Min) From 1 (00-5000 Conosive 2 coatsand2 wraps (4.0 mm, Mis) Above $000 Non-corrosive 1 coat and 1 wrap msn, Min) 1 10221 : 2008, 9 ELECTRICALINSPECTION 9.1. All coated and wrapped pipes shal be tested with 2a approved high voltage holiday detector equipped with a positive signaling device to indicate any fats, holes, breaks or conductive particles in the protective coating, 9.2 The applied output voltage of the holiday detector shall have a spork discharge at least twice the thickness ofthe coating to assure adequate inspeetion voltage and compensate for any variation in costing thickness, 93 When selecting test voltages, considcration should ‘be given to the tolerance of coating thickness and the voltage should be selected on the basis of maximum coating thickness likely to be enccuntered. ‘The testing voltage shall be calculated by using following formula: ‘Testing voltage ¥= 7 900 JF * 10 percent where Tis average coating thickness, in mm. 94 The test shall be carried out in co-ordination with, the coating/wrapping mamufactarers. 10 MEASUREMENT 10.1_All measurements for piping shal be taken over the finished surface in meters, corrected to nearest centimeter along the centerline of piping, through all fittings, coated and wrapped, or otherwise, such as valves, langes, elbows, bends, tes and reducers (see aso 1S 14164). 10.2. Coating and wrapping of valves, flanges or other fitings shall be measured through such valves, flanges of other fittings as per 10.1 and in addition extra measurements shall be allowed as follows: 8) Foreach costed and wrapped valve and ventari including flanges and body 1.5 linear metres ‘of piping of connected line size up to 300 mm line size and 2.00 linear metres for larger sizes, 'b) For each pair of coated and wrapped flanges inchading orifice plate and flanges, 0.80 linear ‘meters of piping of connected lines, et, ©) Forall costed and wrapped bends and elbows twice the actual length of such fittings, of concemed connected line sizes, as measured along their cent lines. 4) For all coated and wrapped reducers, actual Length of longer size (along the centre line of piping). ©) For all coated and wrapped tees, the formula 2 (D,+D,) shall apply where D, and D, are
