CANDIDATE SECTION
Candidate responses on this document must be typed and limited to a maximum of 500 words for the whole of the
Candidate section (not per field). It is not permitted to exceed the two sides of the candidate section.

Describe your real-life situation:

Our RLS was Bunny the dog, a Tik Tok channel popular for videos of bunny, the dog communicating with her owner Alexis
Devine by pressing buttons to emit sounds. Bunny has since become a scientific phenomenon as she expanded her
vocabulary to have longer conversations with Alexis.

State your central knowledge question (this must be expressed as a question):

To what extent should we utilize non-traditional communication when examining sources of knowledge in reference to
language?

Explain the connection between your real-life situation and your knowledge question:
Bunny uses non-traditional communication through the technology utilized in her button board. Through this unique method,
she could gain an advanced comprehension of language. In our presentation, we analyzed the effectiveness of Bunny’s
communication, and this non-traditional communication.

Outline how you intend to develop your TOK presentation in the context of your real-life situation. Include analysis of your
main knowledge question and related knowledge questions as well as arguments and perspectives. Responses can be
presented in continuous prose or as a list of points:
First we discussed Bunny and her impact on communication through TIk Tok.
We analyzed Bunny’s unique form of communication with Alexis and it's non-traditional nature. Later we discussed how
Bunny challenges preconceived notions about communication, specifically between humans and animals
After analyzing Bunny, we moved onto our main knowledge question: To what extent should we utilize non-traditional
communication when examining sources of knowledge in reference to language?
As we analyzed this main knowledge question we included secondary knowledge questions: How does technology connect
us through communication? What implications does the use of technology carry? How can we define communication? What
is non-traditional communication? How can non traditional communication offer insight into new sources of knowledge?
We began by discussing the impact of communication in the AOK of art and how different artistic mediums represent non
traditional communication.
Next, we analyze the use of technology as a non-traditional form to assist those with communication impairments, including
mute people.
Later we discussed the use of technology in overcoming language barriers between different cultures and groups of people.
Provided analysis on controversy over one language being used in global science.
Finally, we discussed social media as a form of non traditional communication and what impact it has on language.
We discussed its positive impact on social movements and its use as an amplifier for unknown sources of knowledge.
Additionally, we discussed the drawbacks of social media when used for cyberbullying or online harassment and how social
media can transform users into products designed for sale to advertisers.
In this section, we used the Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma, as a source of information for our analysis.

Show the significance of your conclusions with particular reference to your real-life situation and indicate how those
conclusions might be relevant to other real-life situations:
The employment of non-traditional communication has become heavily impacted by the growth of technology. Bunny used a
button board to communicate in ways that both she and her owner understood, which was more effective than pre-existing
communication methods. We further analyzed the relevance of non-traditional communication through other real-life
situations, like new forms of communication for those who are mute, looking at new ways to communicate through different
languages, dissecting how social media affects people’s communication, and how the abstractness of art conveys
profound meaning. Through each perspective derived from our various real-life situations, we found that non-traditional
communication had a much wider range of applications for use in the exploration of linguistic sources of knowledge.
