3. Application
 It is used to fix porcelain tiles, marbles, natural granites, natural stones, travertine,pool tiles
and pieces, and non-slip tiles.
 Fix tiles onto concrete, cement renders/screeds, block work, rendered brickwork, fibre
cement sheet and particular waterproofing membranes.
 For both interior and exterior applications.

1. Products Description

The vitrified tile back glue coating primer is composed of powders and liquid materials. Powders are
blended from high quality cement, refined sands and modifiers; liquid materials are blended from
imported polymer emulsions, modifiers, etc. The product is used in back coating interface treatment of
low water absorption vitrified tiles and can release the majority of the stress generated between tile
glue and vitrified tiles. The product has a very good transition effect on bonding between common tile
glue and vitrified tiles and can effectively eliminate the phenomena such as hollowing and falling of
vitrified tiles.

2. Application Scope

Applicable to the back coating primer of glazed tiles, through-body tiles, polished tiles, polished glazed
tiles, thin slab tiles, vitrified tiles, anti-slip tiles, ancient bricks, mosaics, marble, granite, slate, etc.

This product should be transported and stored at 5-30 ℃, and the storage temperature is valid
for 6 months at 25 ℃; below 0 ℃, it will freeze and solidify and cannot be restored. If stored at
sub-zero temperature, please take good thermal insulation measures;

pigment as raw material, adopt advanced technology. Developed from epoxy resin polymer has advantages, such

5. Application Instruction

Firstly: Put sticky rice glue into a clean pail

Secondly: Put clean water several times into pail (water: glue=1:1), and then stir until it turns into
thick and smooth high-quality adhesive solution，the total amount of water would better no more
than 2kg.

increase the adhesive force between wallpaper and wall base surface, meanwhile playing a role in moisture-proof and

How to Use Surface Preparation
Ensure that surfaces to be sealed are clean, dry, sound and free from frost. Clean all joints
of release agents, water repellents, laitance, dust, dirt, old sealants and other contaminants
which could impair adhesion. Non-porous surfaces should be cleaned and degreased by
wiping with a suitable solvent such as DOWSIL™ R-40 Universal Cleaner on an oil and lint-
free cloth before application of sealant. Porous substrates should be mechanically cleaned
using a steel brush, sanding disc or any similar means.

Note: When using any solvent, always provide adequate ventilation. Avoid heat, sparks and
open flames. Use solvent resistant gloves. Observe and follow all precautions listed on
solvent container label.

Masking
Areas adjacent to the joints should be masked with tape to prevent contamination of the
substrates and to ensure a neat sealant line. Masking tape should be removed immediately
after tooling.

Priming
No primer is required for PVC-U and for most common construction substrates including
brick. However, a test placement prior to general use is always recommended.

Back-up Materials
Closed cell polyethylene backer rod is recommended as a back-up material to provide back
pressure and avoid three sided adhesion that limits sealant movement capability. Low tack
polyethylene tape should be used in joints too shallow to allow the use of backer rod.

Finishing
The joint should be tooled within 5 minutes of application to ensure good contact between
the sealant and the substrate. Tooling of the sealant also gives a smooth, professional
finish.

Clean-up
Excess sealant may be cleaned off tools and non-porous surfaces whilst in an uncured state
using DOWSIL™ R-40 Universal Cleaner. If sealant is misapplied to porous substrates, it
should be left until it is just cured and then removed by peeling, cutting or other mechanical
means. Care should be taken not to damage plastic or coated surfaces.

Joint Design The sealant joint width should be designed to accommodate the movement capability of the
sealant. When designing joints using DOWSIL™ 796 Neutral Silicone, the minimum width
should be 6 mm. For joints between 6–12 mm wide, a seal depth of 6 mm is required. For
joints above 12 mm wide, a width to depth ratio of 2:1 should be used. For joint dimensions
greater than 25 mm, please contact your regional service center for technical assistance. In
situations where fillet joints are needed, a minimum of 6 mm sealant bite to each substrate
is recommended.

Usable Life and When stored at or below 30°C (86°F) in the original unopened containers, DOWSIL™ 796
Storage Neutral Silicone has a usable life of 12 months from the date of production.

Limitations DOWSIL™ 796 Neutral Silicone is not recommended for structural glazing or insulated
glazing applications. Do not use DOWSIL™ 796 Neutral Silicone on bituminous substrates,
substrates based on natural rubber, choloroprene or EPDM or on building materials which
might bleed oils, plasticisers or solvents. Do not use DOWSIL™ 796 Neutral Silicone in a
totally confined space because the sealant requires atmospheric moisture to cure. It is not
recommended for use on submerged joints, or in joints where physical abuse or abrasion are
likely to occur. Bleeding can occur on porous substrates, such as concrete, marbles, granites
and other natural stones. Specific testing should be carried out on sensitive substrates.

DOWSIL™ 796 Neutral Silicone is not suitable for food contact applications.

It is recommended that DOWSIL™ 796 Neutral Silicone is not applied to surfaces that are
below 5°C (41°F) as it is impossible to guarantee a dry surface at these temperatures.

This product is neither tested nor represented as suitable for medical or pharmaceutical
uses.

Applications  DOWSIL High Performance Kitchen and Bathroom Mould Resistant Sealant is
designed to resist the growth of mildew where conditions of high humidity and
temperature exist.
 Typical applications include the sealing around the shower room, bathtub, toilets, wash
basin in kitchen and bathroom.

How to Use Surface Preparation

The surface of the substrate should be sufficiently clean, dry, flat and free of foreign matter.
Completely remove any existing sealant. For non porous surfaces such as glass and coated
aluminum extrusion, remove any grease, oil or dust using a clean cotton cloth and a solvent
such as ketone, ethyl carbinol or 75% alcohol. With a dry cloth, remove any residual solvent
or dust.

How to Use Use of Primer
(Cont.) Adhesion test on substrates prior to general use is always recommended. For specific
advice, please contact one of Dow’s regional service centers for technical assistance.

Back-up Materials
At the bottom of the joint, use backer rod (e.g. closed-cell type polyethylene or open-cell
polyurethane foams) or equivalent material (e.g. low-viscosity polyethylene tape) to control
the depth of sealant. Avoid 3-sided adhesion by preventing the sealant from adhering to the
bottom of the joint.

Masking and Tooling

Masking tape can be used in the area adjacent to the joint to ensure a neat sealant line,
preventing the surrounding surplus sealant from contaminating the substrate surface.

 Tool the joint surface as soon as the sealant is applied, keeping the surface smooth
and flat, and ensuring that the edge of the joint is full of sealant.
 Complete the tooling before the sealant skin forms (e.g. in working time). Convex-
surface tools are recommended for tooling to allow the joint to remain full of sealant.
Tooling must be performed when sealing the horizontal joint to prevent any liquid (e.g.
rainwater and cleaner) from staying on the sealant surface.
 Do not use soap or water as tooling assistants.
 After the tooling and before the sealant cures, remove masking tape.
 Do not touch the surface of the sealant within the 48 hours following its cure. Avoid
sealant contact with cleaner or solvent (e.g. bleaching agent) during this period.
 When a flammable solvent is used, proper precautions should be applied. For porous
material surfaces, allow the sealant to cure completely before removing the masking
tape. Cured sealant can be removed with a knife.
 The sealant releases gas during curing; the odor disappears after it is cured. The
completely cured sealant is harmless.

Sealant Filling
Cut the nozzle at an angle of 45° depending on the shape and specification needed.
Tighten the nozzle onto the sealant tube. Put the sealant tube into the cartridge gun. Use
pneumatic or manual cartridge gun. Apply sealant to the bottom of the joint to fill the joint
completely and to ensure adhesion to both sides of the joint. Do not apply the sealant
simply on the surface as the sealant cannot fully fill the joint by gravity.

Joint Design Proper joint design can reduce the stress on the sealant and help obtain optimal sealant
movement capability, improve the ease of application, reduce cohesive failure, and
minimize the effects of curing byproducts.

 Minimum joint width and joint depth: 6 mm.

 For larger joints, the width of the joint shall be larger than the depth of sealant.
 To avoid 3-sided adhesion, backer rod or non-adhesion tape should be used at the
bottom of the joint to ensure that the sealant is only adhering to the edge of the joint
and to ensure flexible movement in the joint.

 Aquarium
 Continuous water immersion
 Food contact applications
 Totally confined space
 Structural glazing or insulated glazing
 The joints where physical abuse or abrasion are likely to occur
 Cannot be painted, as paint will not adhere to sealant
 Materials that bleed plasticizers or solvents or release by-products that may inhibit its
cure, affect adhesion or discolor the sealant.
