Introduction

An internet café or cybercafé is a place where one can use a computer with Internet
access, most for a fee, usually per hour or minute; sometimes one can have unmetered
access with a pass for a day or month, etc. It may serve as a regular café as well, with
food and drinks being served. The concept and name, Cybercafé, was invented at the
beginning of 1994 by Ivan Pope, commissioned to develop an Internet event for an arts
weekend at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London. Pope wrote a proposal
outlining the concept of a café with Internet access from the tables. The event was run
over the weekend of 12-13 March 1994 during the 'Towards the Aesthetics of the
Future' event. In June 1994, The Binary Cafe, Canada's first Internet café, opened in
Toronto, Ontario. Here in the Philippines, the first internet cafes was established in the
late 1990’s as gaming centers whose computers were connected by a local area
network (LAN) in which offline games such as counter strike were usually played. It later
evolved as internet cafes with the introduction of internet access through a dial up
connection. Greater advancement and improvements to the industry was achieved with
the introduction of a faster internet connection service commonly known as DSL (Digital
Subscriber Line). More services were added such as online gaming, video streaming
and a much faster internet browsing.- Ang pagsisimula at pagpapaunlad ng internet
internet connection.

In a report that was prepared by Yahoo and Nielsen, it states that even if the Philippines
has a low computer penetration rate of 14 percent, it still has a strong internet presence
since 70 percent of internet related access in big cities and municipalities around the
country is primarily done through the internet cafes. A recent survey that was conducted
by a gaming company stated that there are about 11,000 licensed internet cafes that
could be found in the country but the number could increase if we take into
consideration the vast amount of unlicensed internet cafes operating in private homes
and communities. The internet café owner has to realize the important role to which his
industry plays in the community. We are the front liners in the rapidly changing world of
information communication technology. We serve as the bridge between the community
that could not afford to have their own computer systems and DSL connection at home
to the rapidly changing world of the internet. We provide a service and have the
technology to be able to change the social and economic conditions in the municipalities
and cities in which we operate.
malalaking syudad at bayan.

Services Offered by Internet Cafes

Internet cafes is a service oriented business organization that offers a variety of

services that is related to information communication technology. Examples of services

1. Computer Rental – the bread and butter of any internet café. Computers are
usually rented out to customers by the hour or depending upon the needs of the
customers for the following activities: - Dito sa computer rental kumikita ang
araw..

o Internet Browsing – searching the internet for information through the use
of a web browser – Ito ang paggamit ng internet connection at web
researches na makukuha more on internet using.

o Online gaming - Online games are played over some form of computer
network, now typically on the Internet. One advantage of online games is
the ability to connect to multiplayer games, although single-player online
games are quite common as well.

o Offline gaming- these are stand-alone games that does not require the
use of an internet connection to be played.- Ito ang mga laro na hidi
kinakailangan ng any internet connection katulad ng plants vs
zombie.

o Word processing or desktop publishing

2. The most common service offered is typing or encoding. This usually appeals to
customers who are too lazy to type, or who have little no access to a computer.
This service also appeals to busy people who don’t have time to type and edit
their material. These customers would simply leave their work to be typed and
pick it up after it is completed.- Encoding at saka typing ang

3. Saving and transferring digital files in compact disk through the use of a cd
burner.

4. Computer Repair Services – most internet café owners are computer technicians
who have the capacity to fix the hardware and software malfunctions. –

5. An internet café can also provide specialized or sophisticated software to be

available for use by its customers. These software may be kind that the hard to
find, or expensive, or utilizes a large amount of memory.

6. Another service that an internet café can offer is photo editing. The client might
have a picture that can be scanned or digitally edited, fixed up, or restored. While
photo editing can be done at home, it takes time to do the more difficult or
complicated jobs, and people would rather pay somebody to do the job properly
rather that bungle it themselves.
ipapascan or ipapaedit, papaayos, or ibabalik sa dati.

7. Video editing is also another service that can be offered by the internet café, in
much the same way as photo editing.
8. Internet cafés can also offer simple programming solutions. They can offer
programs for the home offices or small business, like basic databases or
inventory software.

9. The internet café may also offer workshops or lessons. These lessons may range
from simple familiarization with the computer to more difficult subjects. One-on-
one tutorials by the café staff may also be provided to clients who require the

10. Some internet cafés have amenities that make them more like meeting places or
boardrooms, where they offer videoconferencing, group discussion tables, and
other facilities for meetings and group work.-

Kinds of Internet Cafes

1. Internet Only Cafes – these are internet cafes that cater exclusively to internet
users only. No one line and off line games are installed.- Ito ang mga internet

2. Pure Gaming Internet Cafes – These are internet cafes that exclusively cater to
both on line and off line gamers. Their internet browsers are deliberately disabled
to prevent game lag.
laro.

3. Combined Internet Cafes – these internet cafes cater to both internet users and
gamers.
users and gamers.

4. Internet Kiosks – is a computer terminal that provides information access via

electronic methods. Interactive kiosks sometimes resemble telephone booths,
but can also be used while sitting on a bench or chair. Interactive kiosks are
typically placed in high foot traffic settings such as hotel lobbies or airports.- Ito
habang nakaupo sa bench or chair.

Basic Characteristics of the Internet Café Industry

1. It is a capital extensive type of industry – people with very limited amount of

capital at start up should not consider engaging themselves in this type of
activities. Investments have to be made for the physical facilities, Computer
hardware and software, peripherals, electrical and network setup. A certain
amount of capital funds should be set aside to subsidize the first few months of
operations as you are building your customer base. These would include
payment for salaries of personnel, telephone, DSL charges, and rent and
electricity bills.-

2. It is a highly technical type of industry – most of the internet café owners engage
themselves in the internet café business without the sufficient technical skills that
they need in order to maintain their computer units. Thus they rely much on the
services of computer technicians once they encounter some problems with their
units. The services of these technicians are often time very expensive. Internet
café owners must have a sufficient knowledge on maintaining their computer
units in order to minimize these types of cost- Karamihan sa may mga negosyo

3. It has a rapid rate of obsolescence - Moore’s law, proposed by Intel founder

Gordon Moore in 1965, states that at a price point the processing speed of
computer chips double every 18 months. Moore’s law only tells us that any
computer units that are bought today will be obsolete within two years. It would
be replaced by computer units much more powerful and efficient at a lesser price
than what it is today. This is certainly true in the online gaming requirements that
keeps on increasing each year thus internet café owners have no other choice
but to upgrade their systems so often just to keep up with the requirements.-
pangangailangan.

4. It has no central government body to control it – unlike other industries in which a

certain government agency is assigned to regulate it, internet café operations is
still considered to be a backyard industry thus no central government body is
setting the standards and regulations in which to control the players in the
industry. Regulating the industry is often left to the local government that
provides ordinances and regulations that are sometime detrimental to the
development of the internet café industry.- Hindi katulad ng ibang industriya

5. It has a high level of competition – it seems that a lot of people would like to
engage them in this business. I don’t really blame them for in this industry your
limitations would only be your own. The potential in offering services through the
use of the internet is unlimited all you have to do is to find the right information
that is available in the internet. This provides a situation in which there are too
many players catering to a specific market thus cut throat pricing is a regular
feature of this industry.-Maraming tao ang may kagustuhang macaroon ng
ganitong negosyo.

Problem
During the study and observation phase, we found out that the establishment
used a trial internet café timer with lot of difficulties, lack of staffs login records and
reports, lots of miscalculation within bills and client computer usage, unable to track the
print’s count, lack of inventory system and burdens in getting the total sales of their

Possible Solution

Create a new billing system that will suit and process only what would be the

Business Analysis

The group decides to use CATWOE strategies to show the business analysis
where we define how the systems affect the current business situations.- Ang grupong
negosyo.

A. Customers
 He will benefit on the easy payment with the new comprehensive billing

 He will know the currently time consumed and remaining time and amount
to be paid while him renting the PC.- Malalaman nila ang kasalukuyang
nagamit, natitirang oras, at kelangan nilang bayaran habang
gumagamit sila ng pinapaupahang computer.

B. Actors
 This also knows as the end users of the new system.
 His job make easier with new users friendly interface that will aid him in
managing the shop. -

C. Transformation Process
 Manually time logging, price customization, product inventory and point of
sale in every branch.-

D. World View
 The top manager can view and study well the business transactions base
of the statistic reports submitted by every branch via email- Ang
E. Owner
 Pertaining to the establishment stake holders, managers and top
pamamahala.
F. Environmental Constraint
 A power interruption is one of the constraints we found out. So to come up
with that we will requesting to the top managers to use UPS (uninterrupted

The Scope

1. Generates detailed reports and statistics – Nagbibigay ng mga reports at

estatistika na detalyado.

2. Supports password protected employee accounts.- Nagbibigay protekta sa

mga account ng mga empleyado.

3. Process payments quickly and efficiently and improve your business with

reports at estatistika.

4. Provides customizable pricing system, security options-

5. Monitor and control a LAN connected computer such as to lock, unlock,

restart and shutdown remote computer-

6. Protects your PCs from unauthorized access or system damages.-

Expected Outcome

1. All controls and billing should be automated. What this means is that the

billing depending upon the usage of the facility should be automatic. It should

start billing the moment a user starts using the facility and end right where the

user stops using it.- Ang billing dapat ay awtomatiko depende sa

2. In case of usage or billing queries, the software should be capable of

generating a detailed report indicating the facility used, the time of the usage

and the cost associated with it. It should also have the facility of sending the

report through an email or printing it.-

3. There should be the option of selecting a prepaid facility in which a user has

an option to choose among various packages. Since this facility is prepaid

therefore as soon as the time runs out the usage of the facility stops.-
4. Various employees could be given various accounts with different privileges.-

magkakaibang pribilehiyo.

5. The user interface should be as simple or user friendly as possible so that

there is no trouble as far as the facility is concerned.-

6. The Café Monitoring Billing System should be compatible with the available

Stake Holders/Users

The proposed systems is a type of business component consisting of both billing

system and information system helping the business in their productivity, improved
operational efficiency, as well as flexibility, and the ability to handle situations in current
operations.
operations.

Disadvantages

Due to limited time frame on research and development, bug may occur. –Dahil

Pumapasok naman sa process ang time in and out ng
niyang mag time in para makita niya kung anung oras sya nagsimula at

Implementation Procedures

1. Prepare the infrastructure. Many solutions are implemented into a production

environment that is separate and distinct from where the solution was developed
and tested. It is important that the characteristics of the production environment
be accounted for. This strategy includes a review of hardware, software,
communications, etc. In our example above, the potential desktop capacity
problem would have been revealed if we had done an evaluation of the
production (or real-world) environment. When you are ready for implementation,
the production infrastructure needs to be in place.-Maraming solusyon ang
communication at iba pa.

2. Coordinate with the organizations involved in implementation. This may be

as simple as communicating to your client community. However, few solutions
today can be implemented without involving a number of organizations. For IT
solutions, there are usually one or more operations and infrastructure groups that
need to be communicated to ahead of time. Many of these groups might actually
have a role in getting the solution successfully deployed. Part of the
implementation work is to coordinate the work of any other groups that have a
role to play. In some cases, developers simply failed to plan ahead and make
sure the infrastructure groups were prepared to support the implementation. As a
result, the infrastructure groups were forced to drop everything to make the
implementation a success.-

3. Implement training.  Many solutions require users to attend training or more

informal coaching sessions. This type of training could be completed in advance,
but the further out the training is held, the less information will be retained when
implementation rolls around. Training that takes place close to the time of
implementation should be made part of the actual implementation plan.-

4. Install the production solution. This is the piece everyone remembers. Your
solution needs to be moved from development to test. If the solution is brand
new, this might be finished in a leisurely and thoughtful manner over a period of
time. If this project involves a major change to a current solution, you may have a
lot less flexibility in terms of when the new solution moves to production, since
the solution might need to be brought down for a period of time. You have to
make sure all of your production components are implemented successfully,
including new hardware, databases, and program code.- Ang solusyon ay
bagong hardware, databases, and program code.

5. Convert the data. Data conversion, changing data from one format to another,
needs to take place once the infrastructure and the solution are implemented-

6. Perform final verification in production. You should have prepared to test the
production solution to ensure everything is working as you expect. This may
involve a combination of development and client personnel. The first check is just
to make sure everything is up and appears okay. The second check is to actually
push data around in the solution, to make sure that the solution is operating as it
should. Depending on the type of solution being implemented, this verification

7. Implement new processes and procedures. Many IT solutions require

changes to be made to business processes as well. These changes should be
implemented at the same time that the actual solution is deployed.- Maraming IT

8. Monitor the solution. Usually the project team will spend some period of time
monitoring the implemented solution. If there are problems that come up
immediately after implementation, the project team should address and fix them.-

Maintenance Plan

1. The implementation processes contains software preparation and transition

activities, such as the conception and creation of the maintenance plan, the
preparation for handling problems identified during development, and the follow-
up on product configuration management.-

2. The problem and modification analysis process, which is executed once the
application has become the responsibility of the maintenance group (The
Proponents). The maintenance programmer must analyze each request, confirm
it (by reproducing the situation) and check its validity, investigate it and propose a
solution, document the request and the solution proposal, and, finally, obtain all
the required authorizations to apply the modifications.-

3. The process considering the implementation of the modification itself- Ang

4. The process acceptance of the modification, by confirming the modified work with
the individual who submitted the request in order to make sure the modification

5. The migration process (platform migration, for example) is exceptional, and is not
part of daily maintenance tasks. If the software must be ported to another
platform without any change in functionality, this process will be used and a
maintenance project team is likely to be assigned to this task.

6. Finally, the last maintenance process, also an event which does not occur on a
daily basis, is the retirement of a piece of software.
