1. Types

 Joint: mechanical discontinuity with no significant movement-related

displacement between the two sides of rock

 Joint set: sequence of joints of similar orientation

 Shear Zone: mechanical discontinuity with significant movement-related

displacement between the two sides of rock

 Vein: healed planar fracture with crystallised minerals which have been
precipitated from aqueous solutions (not to confuse with dykes which formed from
magma)

 Set of Veins: sequence of veins or veinlets of identical composition and

similar orientation
