I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. When I was in kindergarten
we were asked what we wanted to be when we grew up and to draw a picture to go with it. I
wrote teacher and drew a picture of an older version of myself surrounded by a circle of children
and I was teaching. I would consider myself lucky to say that I have always had pretty amazing
teachers (give or take a few). One of my favorite teachers was in third grade and her name was
Mrs. Rankin. She would let me help her in any way she needed and always made me feel special
and important. Every day after school that year while waiting for the bus I would stay in her
classroom and would help in any way I could because I loved doing it.
When I got to high school I joined the theatre program where I met my second favorite
teacher, Mrs.Montgomery. She was almost like a second mom to me and was always there for
me when I really had no one else. I used to stay late after school to help build sets and program
the sound and light boards for shows with her and a couple of other classmates and we always
made sure to have fun with what we were doing. She showed me what it meant to be a caring
My Dad is also a technical theatre teacher and I would go to the middle school he taught
at after school and help with shows and teach the kids fun theatre games and exercises. I have
been surrounded by teachers my whole life and they have all shaped me to be the person I am
today. Even the ones that were not so good inspired me to become the best teacher I can be. I
want to help any children I teach to become the best possible version of themselves. I want them
to know that they are important and loved because many kids do not get to hear that. I cannot
wait for the day when I have my own classroom and can begin inspiring young minds.
