Discussion/Analysis of Results

For the 1st procedure of the experiment, we set the values to 20, 30, 40, and 50 percent of 120V supply.
The measured voltage output (E) values are 30.06, 42.17, 55.04, and 68.24 respectively. After the 1 st
part, we got the peak to peak value of the voltage (E P-P) of the sine wave by measuring the maximum
voltage (Em) using the oscilloscope. We can compute the peak to peak value using the equation E m=Ep-p/2
where we will get the Ep-p by multiplying Em to 2. Then the Em can be used to measure the effective value
of voltage with the equation E1= 0.707 Em. Based on the results of the experiment, the voltage output (E)
of each different voltage levels and the effective value of voltage (E 1) are identical with a maximum
percent difference of 0.76%. This proves AC voltages are always given in their effective value or root
mean square. The reason for this is because it allows a sensible comparison to be made with steady DC
voltages.
