Requesting books

A set of universities have established an agreement to lend their books to all the students enrolled in
their programs. A student can request multiple books from any of the participant libraries and select a
library from where the requested books should be collected.

The process established for requesting books is the following.

First, the student signs in into the system and search for the items required and the library from where
he or she wants to borrow them. Additionally, the student must select a library and a date to pick up the
books.

As the libraries are not fully integrated, it is not possible to know at this point if the books requested are
available or not. For that reason, each library involved must search the books, reserve them, and schedule
the delivery to the library selected by the student. This search is done simultaneously in each library
involved.

After all the libraries finish the search of the books, and if some of the requested books are on loan, the
student is notified by e-mail. Once the notification is received, the student must answer if the incomplete
request should continue or if it should be canceled definitely. If the student does not answer within the
following five days, the system assumes that the request is cancelled. In case the request is cancelled by
the student or the waiting time for the reply expires, the student and the libraries are notified by email
about the cancelation.

Finally, in case the student decides to carry on with an incomplete request, or if all the books are available,
the books are packed and sent by each library to the selected library and in the date specified by the
student.
