Business Process

The purpose of the process is to enhance Flores Memorial Medical Center's

capability to efficiently and systematically compound and distribute prescribed medicinal

drugs from medical practitioners to patients by executing a regulated organizational

process. The process scope only covers pharmaceutical operations. External obligations,

such as community deliberation of medications, are outside the scope of FMMC's

process. The process input is the doctor's prescription order. If such input is identified,

the process will initiate. The tasks immediately following the process input and

preceding process output specify the boundaries of the process. Therefore, the analysis

of the prescription defines the starting boundary of the hospital's process. The ending

boundary of the process is determined by the hospital's dispensing of drugs by the

pharmacists.

(1) The process flow of FMMC initiates by the written prescription of the doctor

(input). (2) The pharmacist receives the prescription order. (3) The prescription order

is analyzed; the continuation of this process depends on the pharmacist's analysis of

whether the prescription has complete information and is clarified by the prescriber. If

the prescription contains any error or is inaccurate, the pharmacist will contact the

prescriber for further clarification. If there are no such errors, the process immediately

proceeds to the next step. (4) If the prescription is clarified, the pharmacist checks the

medication's availability in the hospital's inventory. If the drug is unavailable, purchased

drug packages are received, checked for quality control, and are updated in the

inventory. (5) The pharmacist fills the medication order. (6) The pharmacist releases
the charge slip. (7) The process continues as the pharmacist dispenses the prescribed

drug. The administration of the medication depends if the client is an in-patient or an

out-patient. (8) The accounting department receives the medication payment, and the

receipt is released. (9) The output of FMMC's process is the prescribed and dispensed

drug by the pharmacist.
