1. A large clock on a building has an hour hand that is 240 cm long. Calculate:
a. The angular speed of the hour hand
A large clock on a building has an hour hand that is 240 cm long. Calculate:
The angular speed of the hour hand
Angular speed = #of rotations x 2 pi x frequency
Angular velocity equation = change in angular rotation/change in time
Angular velocity = 2 pi/3600
Angular velocity = 0.001745 rads/second
Angular speed = Angular velocity x r
Angular speed = 0.001745 x 2.4m
Angular speed = 0.0041888 m/s

b. The angular displacement, in radians, in the time periods:

(i) 9AM to 11:45 AM

Angular displacement = 11.75-9 = 2.75

2.75/12 = x/2pi
2pi x 2.75/12 =
1.44 rads

(ii) 2PM to 2:40PM

Angular displacement = 40/60

40/60/12 = x/2pi
2pi x 40/60/12 = x
0.349 rads

2. A car completes 40 revolutions in 4 minutes while going round a circular path. Calculate
the angular displacement and the angular speed of the car.
Angular displacement = 40 x 2pi
Angular displacement = 251.33 rads

Angular speed = #of rotations x 2 pi
Angular speed = 40 x 2 pi/240
Angular speed = 1.047 rads/sec
