Childhood Obesity
 Body Mass Index (BMI) is used to determine if a child is above the
normal weight for their age and height.
Overweight: BMI ≥ 85th percentile
Obese: BMI ≥ 95th percentile
 "Obesity now affects 1 in 5 children and adolescents in the U.S."
(CDC, 2018).
 From 2015-2016 the prevalence of obesity was 20.6% in children ages
2-19 years old, and 39.8% in adults (CDC, 2017).
 As education level increases obesity rates decrease (CDC, 2019).
 The prevalence of obesity Is related to socioeconomic status.
In 2017 obesity was high for low-class and middle-class citizens,
and low for upper-class citizens (CDC, 2019).

National School Lunch Program (NSLP) today
