FAX (503) 692-6220 PLANT SET-UP NEEDS The following are suggestions for achieving a smooth start-up ‘Thank you for your Crusher order ** If the plant is damaged in transit you must note it on bill of lading before signing. If you do not note the damage, you will not be able to make a claim with the freight company for any necessary repairs. 1) It is of utmost importance to have a level, compact site on which to set up your plant. this will avoid undue plant vibration and possible breakage due to excessive "rock and roll" 2) Have an adequate quantity of sound hardwood blocking and shim material to set up the plant, Shimming the blocking will be necessary during the first few weeks of operation on a new site due to settling. This is necessary even on the best of level, compact sites. Blocking adjustment is the plant owner's responsibility. 3) Have you arranged a power supply for the plant? Ifyou did not purchase a generator from CEC or the local dealer, please make sure the generator or line power is sized properly and available when the plant arrives. 4) Ifyou purchased electrical panels from CEC or their local dealer, have you arranged for electrical cord to run from your power supply to the electrical boxes? Cables are not supplied unless purchased. Customer needs to supply own electrician to connect, plant to power source, 3) Have you ordered screen cloth for your plant? You will need to specify opening size such as one (1) inch, not a specific product such as D-2, as most designations such as this are local and do not have any meaning out of your area or state ©) You will need to provide hand tools, welding, cutting, and lifting equipment at the job site for your plant assembly. This includes cranes for unloading and set-up, and trucks for onsite movement. Any special nuts, bolts, washers, chute adjustment steel and skirting are your responsibility (due to layout changes or special site conditions). We can not anticipate special site conditions and adjustments. | Construction Equipment Company Rock Crushers « Screen Plans * New and Used 18650SW PodificHwy. You will need plant assembly labor during assembly process, CEC will provide a technician to assist in the assembly process, your local dealer will have a service technician on site also during this process. For training of maintenance and general plant knowledge the customer must provide the assembly crew. CEC is not responsible for omissions in plant orders or performance of your people. 8) Once the plant is running, you will need to retighten all bolts on the plant. This procedure and frequency are called out in your plant manual 9) Lubrication of the crusher: grease and oil are the least expensive items that you will ever buy for the crusher, but they have an enormous effect on the long term reliability and operation cost of the plant. Read the lubrication portion of your manual, and follow the recommendations of your start up technician who will review the lubrication process with you. 10) CEC’s technician can not begin the set up process until the site is properly prepared, power and cables are available, lifting equipment is available, blocking is on site, and proper personnel are on site for erection. 11) Read the manual! ‘The manual contains maintenance recommendations and intervals which are necessary for maintaining your warranty, and a trouble shooting log ‘which was designed to save you hours of down time. It also contains an operator's log which should be filled out daily. This log will familiarize the operator with the plant and vill provide invaluable troubleshooting data if problem should arise. ‘The above pointers are designed to help your new plant start up to go smoothly. Please dio not hesitate to contact CEC or their local dealer with any questions that you have. Thank you again for your plant order. Operation ‘The Cone Crusher should be used mainly for Secondary or Subsequent Crushing. At the middle of the Main Shaft (4011) located in the center of the Lower Frame, are fitted the cone shaped Mantle Core (4021) and Mantle (4031). The lower, tapered portion of the Main Shaft is seated into the Eccentric (3011), and the rotation of the Eccentric causes the Gyrating Motion ofthe Main Shaft Assembly. Undemeath the Top Celll is the Concave (2121) which forms a crushing chamber with the ‘Mantle. The Feed Platform (1211) directs ore feed to the center of the Distributor (4071), and its Gyrating Action makes the ore drop down evenly from the Distributor into the crushing chamber. The ore is then Crushed between the Mantle and the Concave and is continuously discharged. The Top Frame, assembled with the Concave and Top Cell, is affixed to the Lower Frame by extetnal Release Springs (1171). ‘The foreign matter (such as iron) is fed into the Crushing Chamber, the Top Frame raises up by Spring Action and allows the foreign material to pass through, thereby protecting the Cone Crusher from overload or damage. When the foreign matter has passed through, the Top Frame will reset and continue normal crushing operation. 36CONE VER. 5.0 Construction Equipment Company 6 CEC-MINYU 36” CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL, 3. INSTALLATION 3.1. Foundation Prepare the foundation as shown in Fiqure No. 1 and Figure No. 2. Some conditions may require deviation from the suggested foundation. Place the base plates at four comers as shown in Fiqure No. 1. When placing a base plate, provide a proper recess and fill it with a thick mortar ofnon-shrink cement, See Figure No. 2. Put the base plate on top. ‘The elevation of the base plates determines the elevation and level of the machine. Therefore, use a precise level measuring device to ensure that all base plates are laid at the same elevation. Use the elevation of the frst plate as a reference, and lay the subsequent plates at the same elevation, After the non-shrink mortar has hardened (about 24 hours), check the level and elevation of each base plate again using a precise level measuring device 3.1.1. MOTOR and V-BELT SETUP 6.1. Alignment of Motor Align and Adjust the Centers of the Drive and Driven Sheaves on the Motor and the Cone Crusher. When determining the center-to-center distance of the motor to the Cone Crusher, remember that the V-Belts elongate during operation of the Cone Crusher and provisions for installation and removal of the V-Belts to be allowed for. Provisions should also be provided to allow for take-up of the elongated or stretched V-Belts. Keeping the V-Belts at the proper tension can prolong belt life. 6.2. Installing and Tensioning a V-Belt Drive 6.2.1. Installing a Drive Check Condition of Sheaves---Before a new set of V-Belts are to be installed. Check the condition of the sheaves. Dirty or Rusty sheaves Impair the Drive’s Efficiency and wear the V-Belts, which result in premature failure, ‘Wom sheaves can shorten V-Belt life as much as 50%. Ifthe grooves are worm to where the \V-Belts bottom out, slippage may result and bum the V-Belts. If the sidewalls of the sheaves are “DISHED-OUT”, the bottom shoulder destroys the V-Belts prematurely by wearing off the bottom comers. Check Sheave Alignment--Sheave alignment should be checked by placing a straight edge or tight cord aoross the sheave faces so that it touches all four points of contact. Ordinarily, a mis- alignment of more than one-half degree (one-eighth inch in one foot) will adversely affect V-Belt life. Improper sheave alignment produces uneven wear of one side of the V-Belt, causing the V-Belt to roll over in the sheave groove and throws all the load on one side of the V-Belt, stretching or breaking the cords on the side. 36CONE VER 5.0 Construction Equipment Company 8 CEC-MINYU 36” CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL 6.2.2. Installation and Take-Up Allowances After calculating a center distance from a standard pitch length, Make provisions for adjusting the center distance as in Figure No. 14. This will allow for installation of the V-Belts without injury, for V-Belt tensioning and for maintenance of proper tension throughout the life of the V- Belts. Forcing the V-Belts can cause internal injury to the V-Belts. V-Belt Selectio1 matched set of V-Belts. ‘For Maximum service, replace V-Belt drives with a complete new NEVER employ a used V-Belt as a replacement for a V-Belt in a set. Used V-Belts, normally, are Worn in cross-section and are Stretched. A new V-Belt so applied with used V-Belts will ride higher in the groove, travel faster and operate at a much higher tension than the used \V-Belts and the cord center may be ruptured allowing the new V-Belt to elongate. Shortly after this, occurs, the new V-Belt will cease to accept its full share of the load, leaving the drive under V-Belted. Thus, the new V-Belt is ruined. V-Belts from different manufactures should not be mixed for the same reasons. 6.2.6. Tensioning a Drive GENERAL RULES OF TENSIONING 1. Ideal Tension is the Lowest Tension at which the V-Belt wil not slip under peak load conditions, 2. Check Tension frequently during the first 24-48 Hours of operation. 3. Over Tensioning Shortens V-Belt and Bearing Life 4, Keep V-Belts fice fiom foreign material which may cause slippage. 5. Make V-Belt drive inspection on a periodical basis, Adjust V-Belt tension when slipping occurs. NEVER apply Belt Dressing to the V-Belts as this will damage the V-Belts and cause early failure, 36CONE VER. 5.0 Construction Equipment Company 2 CEC-MINYU 36” CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL, 6.2.7, Simple Tensioning Procedure 1, Measure the span length “K”, 2. At the Center of the Span (“K”), Apply a Force (perpendicular to the span) large enough to Deflect the V-Belt 1/64th inch for every inch of span length. For example, the deflection of a 100 inch span would be 100/64 or 1 9/16 inches. See Figure No. 15. | BELT: | DEFLECTION I 1/64” PER ! INCH OF SPAN Figure No. 15 - Measuring the V-Belt Tension. 3. After the Proper Operating Tension has been applied to the V-Belts, double- check the following: (a) parallel position of the sheave shafts and (b) correct | alignment of the sheave grooves. 4, V-Belt Tension can also be tested with a V-Belt Tension Tester that is available from your local power transmission dealer. This convenient tool facilitates easy checking of V-Belt Tension on drives having two or more V-Belts. Scales are provided for reading both the Required Force and the distance of V-Belt Deflection which are used in properly tensioning V-Belts. 36CONE VER. 5.0 Construction Equipment Company cs CEC-MINYU 36” CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL 7. Lubrication Oil then enters groove "H" in the Mantle Core and flows around the circumference of the groove to oil passage "I" in the Mantle Core. Lubrication Oil is then deposited onto the Socket Liner. As the Mantle Core rotates on the Socket Liner, Lubrication Oil is distributed on the entire surface of the Socket Liner. The oil then passed to the lower cavity of the Main Frame where the oil is collected and retumed to the oil tank. Internal grooves on the inside bore of the Outer Eccentric Bushing allows Lubrication Oil to drain to the Thrust Plate Assembly. Intemal clearances between the Main Shaft and the Inner Eccentric Bushing also allows oil to drain to the lower portion of the drive system housing. 36CONE VER. 5.0 Construction Equipment Company 23 CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL . The Working Temperature should be between 86 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit (30 to 60 degrees Celsius). Ifthe oil is too hot, use an appropriate Cooler to bring the Temperature within the Acceptable Operating Range. In Cold Weather, Heat the Lubrication Oil in the oil tank with an Appropriate Heater. Regularly inspect the Lubrication Oil for Changes in Color and Viscosity and for Contamination by dirt or other particles. Replace Contaminated Lubrication Oil. 7.3. Protective Interlocking of Cone Crusher and Oil Pump Motor ‘The Pressure Switch in the oil tank is a Protective Device. It Helps Prevents Bearing Seizure of the Cone Crusher caused by Lubrication Failure. The Pressure Switch MUST be Connected with the Control Panel. 1. Wiring. Refer to Electrical Schematic. 2. Adjusting the Pressure Setting, The Cone Crusher normally runs at 15 PSI (1 km/cm?), and the Pressure Switch Setting is normally 10 PSI (0.6 km/cm2?). Use a Pressure Gauge to Adjust the Pressure Setting, first tum the Pressure Adjusting Screw to point at 15 PSI (1 km/cm?). Then tum the Cutn Pressure Differential Screw to point at 10 PSI (0.6 kg/cm), 3. Testing the Inter-Lock, After completing the wiring, Test the inter-lock to confirm correct operation by performing the following steps Start the Oil Pump. Start the Cone Crusher. Open the by pass valve. Close the outlet valve. Lower the Pressure of the Lubricating Oil to 5 PSI (0.3 km/cm?), wawne This procedure should Cause the Cone Crusher motor to STOP. After testing, Close the By Pass Valve, and Open the Outlet Valve. The Lubricating Oil Pressure will be Higher in Colder Weather. To Compensate, Open the By Pass Valve a Little, and Adjust the Pressure to 30 PSI (2 kgicm?), 36CONE VER. 5.0 Construction Equipment Company 25 CEC-MINYU 36” CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL 8. ADJUSTING THE SETTING Adjust the setting of the opening in the following circumstances: (1) to Change the crushed product size; or (2) to Compensate for enlarged clearance between the Mantle and the Concave caused by Wear. 8.1. Procedure for Adjusting the Setting (Hydraulic Type) 1. Loosen the Fixed Bolts that secure the Cap Frame. 2. Start the Hydraulic Pump. 3. Turn the Control Handle Downward to Extend the Cylinder until it stops. 4, Turn the Control Handle Upward to Retract the Cylinder. The Cylinder will return automatically to its original position. This procedure tums the Cap Frame by one Index Lug. In Type “GSH”, one Index Lug difference in setting is approximately 0.033 inch (0.85 mm). In types “GG” and “CF”, one Index Lug difference in setting is approximately 0.039 inch (1 mm). When viewed from the top, a Right- hand (clockwise) tum of the Cap Frame makes the Opening Smaller, and a Left-hand (counter-clockwise) tum ofthe Cap Frame makes the Opening Larger. The Cylinder can be moved either way. The Opening is Defined as the Distance or Gap Between the Mantle and the Concave, To make a Left-hand (counter-clockwise) tum, pull up the Head and Position the Cylinder as shown by the dotted outline in Fiqure No. 18, After adjusting the setting, retum the Cylinder to its original position, and Tighten the Fixed Bolts that secure the Cap Frame completely. They also act when ore feed is iregular and when the feed contains too many fine particles. To minimize spring action, feed ore properly. ‘The Release Springs should be Adjusted so that they WILL NOT be actuated by Normal load operation. If the Release Springs are too loose, the Top Celll Floats, causing damage to the Cone Crusher and resulting in coarse product grain size. If the Release Springs are TOO TIGHT, the Release Springs cannot Function Properly. Use 2 Hydraulic Jack to lighten the Release Springs, following the recommendations in Table No. 5. Rotation Direction When facing the V-Belt Sheave, always rotate the pulley clockwise. This rotation tends to Fasten the Mantle, Rotating the sheave counter-clockwise tends to Loosen the Mantle See Figure No. 21 10.1.1, Fiqure No. 24 - Confirming Countershaft Rotation 10.2. No-load Test Running Start the Oil Pump, and confirm the Return Oil to the tank. Manually tum the pulley, and determine whether or not the Mantle and the Concave are in contact with each other. THEY SHOULD NOT TOUCH. Turning the Pulley by Hand is Important as This Will Show Inappropriate Contact of Mantle and Concave, Misalignment of Gears or Possible Problems With Bushings and Bearings. Where tuming under power may not. Switch the machine on, After reaching fall speed, watch the movement of the ammeter needle. The Lubrication Oil Pressure will vary with ambient air temperature, oil temperature, oil viscosity, ete. Normally, pressure is high at the start of operation when the oil temperature is low. The pressure should gradually decrease and become constant as the temperature of the oil increases, ‘When the oil temperature is 122 Degrees Fahrenheit (50 degrees Celsius), the oil pressure is approximately 15 PSI (1 kg/cm?) 36CONE VER. 5.0 Construction Equipment Company a CEC-MINYU 36” CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL 10.3. Loaded Operation Start the oil pump and Confirm the return oil to the tank. Switch the Cone Crusher on. Feed ore to the machine, dropping it into the center of the Distributor as shown in Fiqure No. 4. Irregular or uneven feed decreases the capacity of the Cone Crusher, makes the grain size distribution coarse, causes localized abrasion of the Concave and actuates the release springs too frequently. ‘When operating the Cone Crusher, monitor the following things: 1. Actions of the release springs. 2. Temperature of each Bearing. 3. Temperature of retum oil and Pressure of delivery. 4, Variations of power Amperage. 10.4. Stopping the Gone Crusher First, stop ore feed. Clean the Distributor by dropping all ore down through the crushing chamber. Then switch off the Cone Crusher. If ore is left in the crushing chamber, it may be difficult to re-start the Cone Crusher, When the Cone Crusher is completely stopped, tum off the oil pump 36CONE VER. 5.0 Construction Equipment Company 30 (CEC-MINYU 36” CONE CRUSHER PARTS and SERVICE MANUAL 41.
