No doubt you’ve heard of the Pareto principle, which says 80% of your results come from
20% of your efforts. With a well trained researcher, you can focus on the 20% that
produces results and virtually nothing else. A skilled researcher will allow performers to
focus on "money activities" and closing deals and will free up a ton of valuable time.

Some researchers are admin oriented whereas others function more as “junior recruiters”.
I’ve used researchers for several years and have had them perform a large variety of
tasks in my office. Here are 21 things a researcher can do for your firm:

1. Send out follow up email marketing information:

Have your researcher send articles, newsletters, follow up info etc to clients and
prospects. You will benefit from having a passive marketing strategy (email
communications) as well as an active approach (phone calls). You or your
producers can stay focused on the active side and leave the passive methods to
your researcher.

2. Generate marketing leads:

Have your researcher be in charge of prepping your planner with marketing leads.
This can be done using the web and your company database to develop reports.

3. Send a regular candidate “hot list” to clients and prospects:

Another way that a researcher can help with your marketing efforts is to send out a
regular list of hot candidates to a predefined client list.

4. Return messages:
Do you need to return every message personally- of course not. Have your
researcher return low level messages for senior staff.

5. Make follow up marketing calls:

This one calls for more than average skill but you can have a well trained
researcher make follow up marketing calls to dormant clients. This isn’t “cold
calling” but simply follow up marketing and client management.

6. Gather key data from client websites:

Have your researcher gather key data from client websites such as contact names,
systems used by that company, buzzwords etc... This can be tracked and then later
searched.

7. Sourcing:
Name gathering, sourcing and pre-qualification of candidates.

8. Splits:
Point person for handling split placements with other firms.

9. Travel arrangements:
Handle interview travel arrangements.

10. Client visits:
Client visits with the senior staff (adds credibility to bring your “Research
manager”).

11. Invoicing & Collections:

Depending on the size and structure of your firm, it may make sense to have a
researcher perform these tasks.

12. Fill in for staff:

Cover for staff when on vacation.

13. Answer the telephone/ screen calls:

Depending on the size and structure of your firm, it may make sense to have a
researcher perform this task.

14. Job postings:

Post all jobs to relevant sites.

15. Resume Screening:

Screen all incoming resumes.

16. Schedule interviews:

administration and updates

19. Web research for industry information:

Your researcher provides you just the best parts. Reads industry news feeds on
mergers and acquisitions etc and feeds it to your team for professional
development.

20. Database point person:

Keep the database contacts fresh and standardizes data entry.

21. Creates marketing materials:
