Procedure: Tie a small paper


cup/styro cup to a string, attaching it
at two points near the rim as shown
in the diagram. Take a marble or
other small object and place it in the
cup.

Question 1: Whirl the cup in a horizontal circle. Does the marble stay in the cup? (Be
careful! A flying marble can be dangerous).

Answer: The marble inside the cup stay on it even you move the cup horizontally
inside.

Question 2: Whirl the cup in a vertical circle. Does the marble stay in the cup? What
keeps the marble in the cup at the top of the circle?

Answer: The Marble inside the cup stay even you move it vertically because of the
force you exert and with the help of gravitational force makes the marble inside the
cup.

Question 3: Try slowing the cup down. Does the marble stay in the cup?

Answer: Yes, the marble stays in cup even you slowly putting the cup down.

Question 4: If you are brave, try replacing the marble with water. Under what
conditiond does the water stay in the cup?

Answer: In both condition the water able to stay inside the cup
