Physics Investigative Project

Date: Final Due Date

Title: Effects of Colours on Heat absorption.

Hypothesis: Fill this area with a single sentence stating a particular expectation of the
experiment. For example: The chairs in the classroom are made of metal.

Aim: To plan and design an experiment…. {continue this sentence by stating why the
experiment is being carried out}. For example: To plan and design an experiment to determine
which types of water are hard or soft.

Apparatus and Materials: List the materials needed for the experiment

Diagram: Draw a diagram depicting how the lab will be set up.

Procedure: List the steps used to conduct the experiment. There should be atleast 5 steps
mentioned in this area.

Variables:
Controlled Variable: The aspects of the experiment that are exactly the same in both
aspects of the experiment. For example: The material used to make the cups. This is because
the cups used in the experiment are made of the same material.
Manipulated Variable: The aspects of the experiment which are different in the
experiment. It is usually the variable that is changed during the experiment.
Responding Variable: The aspect of the experiment where you get your results from.
This is the variable that is usually measured.

Expected Results:
Draw a table with headings that you can use to fill in information when you actually do the
experiment. YOU ARE NOT TO PUT IN ANY RESULTS IN THE TABLE.

Treatment of Results:
Explain the results that is expected. Give an explanation for the results expected. {Should be no
less than two paragraphs.}

Precautions/ Sources of Error [give an example of both]:

Sources of Error: List particular things that can happen during the experiment which can
negatively affect your results.
Precautions: Things that you can do during the experiment which can prevent errors during the
experiment.

Limitations/ Assumptions [give an example of both]:

Limitations: Things that can happen during the lab that you cannot control.
Assumptions: Certain principles applied during the lab that can help validate your results, or
make them seem accurate.
