3. OPERATION
[WARNING]
Verify that rotation direction of pump and motor is C.W. viewing from motor fan cover
Before operation
Since the impeller of this pump is always submerged in the oil, there is no need of priming before
starting. The lower (and intermediate) bearings are lubricated by the liquid pumped, so safe operation is
ensured unless operated in dry condition.
Since oil seal prevents oil from leaking out of the upper bearing (ball bearing type) no supervision and
adjustment during the normal operation.
Yet, care is needed in special cases so give attention to the following points:
1) After installing the pump or immediately after refilling the oil to the oil tank start the pump only after
confirming that the oil level in the tank is normal. When operated dry or with too little oil in the tank
the ball bearing will be seized by lack of lubricating oil.
2) When operating for the first time after installation or overhauling as well as operating after long
standstill (say more than one month), be sure to supply oil to the ball bearing.
When restarting after a short standstill there is no need of supply of oil to the ball bearing since it is
well lubricated.
3) After installing the pump or when the motor wiring has been removed and replaced be sure to check
the rotational direction of the motor.
5) From the point of view of the motor’s starting current, it is preferable to start the pump with
minimum operational power, namely, with the discharge valve completely closed, especially
when the temperature of oil is low.
6) When operating for a long time with the discharge valve completely closed the oil temperature
inside the pump will rise, so care must be taken so that the pump does not overheat when
operating with the closed discharge valve at normal oil temperature
7) It is preferable for maintenance sake to use usually the main oil pump alternately.
8) When operating for the first time after installation or overhaul check for abnomal noise, vibration, of oil
leakage.
9) When stopping the pump the motor can be switched off irrespective of the degree of opening of the
discharge valve if there is a check valve on the discharge side, but in case there is no check valve stop the
motor after completely closing the discharge valve, otherwise oil will flow back rotating the pump in the
reverse direction.
4.1 Dismantling

Causes of possible troubles are listed here, so when troubles have occurred trace immediately
heir causes and take measures to eliminate them.
Troubles Causes
APPLICATION :
Metalize the shaft if necessary. When the sleeve has become worn appreciably, it becomes
impossible to adjust the packing to prevent leakage and it should be replaced. Excessively grooved and
scored sleeves will tear and score new packing as soon as it is inserted into the stuffing box. If grooved
replace it.
Generally it is recommended that the rings be renewed or overhauled when the original clearance has
doubled. This will be dependent upon the required pump performance since capacity will fall off as the
gap at the running joint increases due to wear.
Operating clearances at wearing rings are 0.076mm for each one inch (≒25mm) diameter with
0.38mm minimum. These clearances apply to standard materials only. When stainless alloys are used
the clearance will be somewhat greater.
The clearance between the stuffing box bushing and impeller hub will not increase under normal
operation. Do not renew or refit this bushing until it is necessary. To prevent the stuffing box packing
from working into this clearance space. See Maintenance of Wearing Rings fir clearance.
When mechanical seals are furnished, the description and identification is indicated on the
manufacturer’s installation drawings. The seals are installed and adjusted at the factory. The drawings
concerned should be filed for future use in maintaining and in adjusting the seal when the pump is
disassembled. To properly prepare the seal for operation, various cooling and flushing flows may have
to be connected.
In some cases, these flows are recalculated from the pump casing: in others, liquid from an outside
source may be used. Connect cooling and flushing flows to seal as directed in subsequent steps. Seal
faces, gaskets, and shaft sealing members must be in perfect condition or excessive leakage may
result. Replace worn or damaged parts.
A maximum dripping rate of 20 g/h occur during operation and is normal.
If the dripping is heavier, the mechanical seal must be replaced.

fitted in the volute casing and so
constructed as to be easily removable
without disassembling the pump. For the bearing material, good self-lubrication
ability is used and lubrication is effected by means of the pump’s discharged
pressure water.
(1) Check the water level in the air separator tank and fill it up with water.
(2) Open fully the main pump suction valve.
(3) Shut off the main pump discharge valve.
(4) Start up the pump
(5) The vacuum pump will be stopped automatically by means of the auto valve
when the main pump starts sucking water and the pressure in the main pump
casing is increased.

1. DISASSEMBLING
In order to replace impeller, sleeve, ball bearing, etc., disassembling of pump is
carried out as follows.
(1) Remove the bearing the bearing cover (360.1), unbend one of the teeth of the
bearing lock washer (931.1) which is bent into one of the slots on the
periphery of the bearing nut as a rotation preventing device and remove the
nut (923.1) by turning it.
(2) Remove the bolts on bearing housing and remove the bearing housing by
rotating itself.
(3) When replacing the old ball bearing with a new one it can be drawn out of the
shaft by hitting the outer race, but it in case it is used again never hit outer
race, but it in case it is used again never hit outer race, which, if given strong
shock, will deform the balls and rolling face, thus making the bearing
unusable.
If it sticks remove scale by washing with kerosene, never hit with hammer
1.7 Motor
Since the motor is aligned with the pump axis and dowelled to motor bed it is
desirable not to remove it except troubles happened.
2. ASSEMBLING
(1) Cleanse each part thoroughly to remove rust and scale, and be sure there are no
injury and burr in fitting parts.
(3) Turn nuts for rotating parts securely and fix anti-rotation device without fail.
(1) Sliding face, “o” ring and “o” ring groove must be cleansed with leadless
gasoline and wiped with soft cloth taking care to keep off dust and other
foreign matter.
(2) Take care not to injure sliding face and “o” ring by hitting or scoring.
(4) Floating seat (54.1) (carbon) must be inserted by hand until it touches bottom
firmly taking care not to injure sliding face.
(5) Fit rotating elements to shaft sleeve (523.1) before fixing it to shaft. Rotating
elements must be in correct assembly when fitted to sleeve. Place stopper
ring (54.7) against shoulder which forms fitting base line and tighten it by
(6) After fitting rotating elements, push seal ring by hand and confirm if they can
move freely on sleeve by spring load.
If this action is bad, seal will be imperfect and leakage will result.

2. PUMP IDENTIFICATION
Each pump is fitted with a rating plate. The specifications stamped on it are as follows :
- pump model and version
- max r.p.m
- max pressure and volume
- serial number
Pump model, pump version and serial number data must be specified when ordering
spare parts. Should the pump be modified (i.e. by changing the original version)
then any change should be mentioned on the rating plate for future reference.
3. TECHNICAL FEATURES
The pump features :
- two horizontal piston adjustable gland packings
- vertically arranged valves.
- splash lubricated crank mechanism.
- the pump can be driven by pulleys, flexible joint or P.T.O. shaft.
4. CONSTRUCTION FEATURES

5. GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PUMP USE
The Piston pump has been designed to pump, at room temperature, fresh, filtered
water and bilge.
Pump performances
The performance data indicated in the Pump Test Record (or on the rating plate)
refer to the maximum performance of the pump. the use of the pump below the
rated performances does not allow the drop in power absorbed to be balanced by
altering the pressure or volume of the pump above it's maximum value.
FIG.1
- 2 -
7. PUMP INSTALLATION
7.a Positioning
The pump must be installed on a rigid and perfectly flat base by means of the prpper
four threated feet.
The max pump inclination during poeration should by no means exceed 5°in order to
guarantee the correct splash Lubrication.
The base must be rigid enough to avoid any misalignment or flexing on the pump/
transmission coupling axis due to the torque involved during operation.
On no accout must the pump be installed in such a way its fluid end rests on the base
where the pump is mounted.
FIG.2
- 3 -
7.c Hydraulic connections
In order to isolate the high pressure equipment from the pump vibrations it is
suggested, where applicable, to use flexible hoses for both suction and delivery line
at least for the first length.
The flexible suction hose must be rigid enough to prevent it collapsing during the suction
stroke, when a partial vacuum may occur.
FIG.3
- 4 -
7.f Filtration
All pumps require a suitable filter, The filter should be installed as close as possible
to the pump, should allow easy inspection and have the following characteristics :
- the filter capacity must not be smaller than the pump inlet ports.
- filter port diameters must not be smaller than the pump inlet ports.
- filtration degree in between 50 and 80 mesh (360 - 200 microns).
- 5 -
8. STARTING UP AND RUNNING PROCEDURES
Before starting up the pump make sure that the following conditions have been complied
with :
- suction line must be connected to the pump : the pump must never run dry.
- suction line must be perfectly airtight.
- any ON-OFF valve in between pump and water source must be open and make sure
the water gets into the pump freely.
- set the pressure line in dump mode in order to let the air in the pump get out easily
thus facilitating the pump priming.
- make sure all suction/delivery line connections are fully tightened.
- joint alignment, belt tightening and P.T.O. shaft inclination tolerances must be within
the values indicated by the transmission Manufacturer.
- make sure of the correct oil level.
Note : in case the pump has not run for a long period, check the suction and delivery
valves for scaling.
8.b Starting up
- pump and motor/engine must start offload : set the regulating valve to zero or set
the pressure line in dump mode by means of proper dumping devices.
- when starting the pump up for the first time or after every wiring re-connection check
for proper direction of rotation.
- during operation check that the rotating speed does not exceed the rated value.
- before putting the pump under pressure let it run for sometime until the oil flows freely.
- before stopping the pump release the pressure from the system by operating the
dump device or by releasing the regulating valve and reduce and reduce rpm to a minimum
(diesel applications).
Note : In case of feeding by a centrifugal pump, make sure that the piston pump starts only
when the correct inlet pressure is provided.
8.c Water leakage
During operation a small amount of water (a few drops a minute) is released from the pump
fluid end, this leakage is designed to provide lubrication for the pressure packins.
The leakage is drained out of the pump through a hole. This hole must be always left open.
FIG.4
- 6 -
9. MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTION
Check oil level through the oil level indicator at least on a weekly basis.
Should the water get into the oil, stop the pump and provide immediate service.
Before filling the pump with the new oil wash accurately the crankcase and crank mechanism.
IMPORTANT NOTE :
BEFORE REPOSITIONING THE VALVE UNITS CLEAN AND PERFECTLY DRY ALL VALVE
SEATS INSIDE THE FLUID END. (see fig.6)
FIG.6
FIG.5

10. PUMP STOPPED FOR LONG PERIOD
Before starting the pump up for the very first time after a long period from the data of
shipment check for the correct oil level, the valves and then comply with the starting
procedures indicated in the chapter 8. When a long inactivity is scheduled drain the entire
suction and delivery line and then run the pump only for a few seconds in order to drain out
the water collected inside the fluid end.
WARNING :
If a pump is frozen or appears frozen ON NO ACCOUT MUST THE PUMP BE OPERATED unitl
the entire system has been thawed out.
- run the pump only for a few seconds and open 5 drain plug in order to drain the water
collected inside the fluid end or, when applicable,
- add a recommended amount of anti-freeze into the water tank and run the pump unitl the
anti-freeze works all through the system.

1. TECHNICAL DATA
Note : When considering a particular fluid, consideration must be given to the disposal of the ejector
discharge.
1.3 Weight
Total net weight 8 kg.
2. DESCRIPTION
When the air ejector primer is fitted to pumps with long lengths of suction pipework, the primer
should be arranged to energize before starting the centrifugal pump, a suitable time delay being
incorporated into the pump motor starter circuit, ensuring that the pump is fully primed and full of
water before starting rotation.
The air ejector primer comprises an ejector body and nozzle, the latter being supplied with air at
between 4 and 7 bar, resulting in the venturi effect causing a low pressure area behind the nozzle
which is connected, via a tapping in the body and a shut-off valve, to the top cover of the pump to be
primed. The system is controlled by a pressure switch
and an air supply solenoid valve so that the pump delivery head is sensed and the primer maintained
in operation until approximately 70% of the delivery head is attained.
Ejector nozzle
The ejector nozzle fits into the top of the ejector body. The main air valve is mounted on top of the
nozzle via a connector and supplies air to the nozzle.
Pressure switch
The pressure switch is mounted by a bracket on the front of the ejector body. It is piped to the
discharge flange of the pump to sense the delivery head.
The pressure switch is adjustable in two ways. Firstly, the switching pressure is adjustable to
determine when the ejector is cut out (at approximately 70% delivery head). Secondly, the switching
differential is adjustable to determine when the ejector is to cut back in as the pump loses prime (at
approximately 30% delivery head).
See Section 3 for details on setting pressure switch.
The electrical supply to the solenoid of the main air valve is switched by the pressure switch.
For wiring diagram, see page 13.
Junction Box
The junction box is mounted with the pressure switch on the bracket.
All connections between the supply, pressure switch and solenoid are made within it.
For wiring diagram see page 13.
3. INSTALLATION
Piping Connections
Main air supply 1/2 in. PF female.
(Use 1/2 in. PT male fitting to connect)
Primer suction line 3/4 in. PF female.
(Use 3/4 in. PT male fitting to connect)
Note: The Plain washers and nyloc nuts should be adjacent to the primer foot.
Pipework Installation
Where the primer has been specified with a vertical centrifugal pump, the pressure switch
and primer suction will have already been piped up, leaving the air supply and primer
discharge to connect.
Pipework is as follows :
Air Supply
The air supply should be piped to the inlet port of the main air valve. A 1/2 in. PT thread
male connector should be used and pipe size should be 1/2 in. nom. bore.
Primer Discharge
The primer discharge should be piped in a downward running pipe of minimum length to an
open end, i.e. returned to bilge, hot well, etc. A 1 1/4 in. PF socket or bend should be used
and pipe size should be 1 1/4 in. nom. bore.
Primer Suction
The primer suction should be piped to the top cover of the centrifugal pump.
Pressure Switch
The pressure switch should be piped to the delivery branch of the centrifugal pump. A 3/8 in. BSP
parallel connector should be used in the free tapping in the delivery branch. Pipe size is 3/8 in. O.D.
and the tail fitting supplied with the pressure switch must be soldered to the pipe.
Electrical Installation
The circuit diagram at the back of this instruction book shows the necessary supply
connections to be made inside the junction box and should be referred to.
There is also a label on the inside of the junction box lid which carries a circuit diagram
and the rating of the solenoid valve coil fitted.
The electrical supply should be taken from the pump starter so that the air ejector primer
system is only energized when the pump is started.
As outlined in the General Description section on page 6, it may be necessary to
incorporate a delay into the pump starter system if the suction system is long and difficult,
to reduce dry-running of the centrifugal pump.
Supply connections should be made via a conduit through the DIN type PG13.5 gland in the
end of the junction box.
Note : An earth connection must be made to the earth terminal inside the junction box from
the pump starter.
Settings
The pressure switch should normally be set to cut out at 70% of the normal pump duty
head, and to cut in at 30% of the normal duty head.
Setting Instructions
1. Isolate before removing cover.
2. Remove control cover.
3. Loosed the locking screw(5).
4. The range can be set with the spindle(1) while at the same time the scale(2) is being read.
5. In unit having an adjustable differential, the spindle(3) must be used to make the adjustment.
The differential obtained can be read direct on the scale(4).
6. Tighten the locking screw(5).
4. OPERATION
Safety
Ensure that electrical supply is isolated at pump starter before removing pressure switch cover or
junction box lid.
Note : It will not be possible to stop the primer by any other means than isolating the complete pump if
the necessary 70% of duty head has not been attained or if the pressure switch is set above the
pump duty head.

5.2 General
No regular routine maintenance is required since the air ejector primer has no moving parts other than
the valve internals, these being lubricated by the air line lubricator.
Note : If it is required to remove the nozzle with the ejector primer mounted on the motor support, it
will be necessary to remove the top primer mounting bolt first to gain clearance.
