A top Big 4 really

Some basic questions re home 4g. We are currently with Quickline using a 4g package with an
antenna they installed and a router they provided. We’re in the sticks.

Quickline have proved unreliable over the last year, and appear to be having a meltdown at the
moment: service constantly dropping, and no tech resolution just excuses about their wholesale
supplier. (Will start another thread about that murky world!) So, plan is to go switch and go with an
EE 4G router.

Could I make use of the existing antenna with the new router?

Where does the SIM sit in the chain: presumably the router?

Which bit is the modem? (The current antenna plugs into a WAN socket in the router suggesting a
modem upstream?

Thanks

Firstly - if it's Quickline of Hull this is not 4G broadband. You can imagine it as a giant WiFi network
they have and the antenna is a big WiFi receiver.

You wouldn't be able to use 4G broadband with any of this equipment really. Simplest thing you
could do is just purchase a 4G broadband package from the likes of Three, EE, Vodafone etc. and
they'll ship you out a router which has a built in antenna. You may find you don't need any of the
extra equipment. The router they'll send is all in one - you won't need anything else to go with it as
long as the signal is good wherever you put it.

Thanks, that’s helpful. Got an EE router next day delivery. So far so good. Shame on Quickline.

I think in the beginning them and others such as Pure etc. offered a good (only) alternative to KC but
for anything other than browsing their network isn’t very reliable.

Do report back how you get on with EE.
