The Travail of Zion

The prophets saw the day when Zion would travail, bring forth children and break the curse of barrenness. The children birthed would be the children of the kingdom.

Isaiah 26:18 We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth
WIND; we have not wrought any DELIVERANCE in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen.

Israel had not brought forth any DELIVERANCE in the earth. The time was coming when they would bring forth DELIVERANCE for the NATIONS through CHRIST. Zion would travail and bring forth children.

Isaiah 54:1-5
Sing, O BARREN, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the DESOLATE than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.

ENLARGE the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; For thou shalt BREAK FORTH on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the GENTILES, and make the DESOLATE cities to be inhabited. Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

Paul identifies the fulfillment of this prophecy with HEAVENLY JERUSALEM.

Galatians 4:26-28
But JERUSALEM which is above is free, which is the MOTHER of us all. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

Heavenly Jerusalem is the MOTHER of the children of promise.

Isaiah 66:8
Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a NATION be born at once? for as soon as ZION TRAVAILED, she brought forth her children.

The nation born is the HOLY NATION, the CHURCH.

1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an HOLY NATION, a peculiar
people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

The children of the KINGDOM consists of believers from all nations (the Gentiles)
