Running and Reversing of a three-phase Induction motor

Objective:
To change the direction of a three - phase Induction motor rotation

Theory:
Two of its phases need to be exchanged to change the direction of a 3-
phase Induction motor rotation, thus changing the phase sequence from
sequence RST to TSR. It can be accomplished using two contactors, one
for the forward rotation and another for reverse rotation. The forward &
reverse contactors are mechanically interlocked, i.e., if one of them is
closed, the another cannot close. It is done to avoid dead short circuit in
case both the contactors closing simultaneously.
Also, electrical interlocking could be provided using the contacts of the
contactor.

2. Main and Sub feeder isolating circuit breaker
3. Power and control circuits fuses
4. Two three-phase electromagnetic contactors with bi-metal overload
relay.
5. Indicating lamps and Pushbuttons

Procedures:
1.Connect the circuit, as shown in the diagrams.

2. Switch on the main and sub feeder isolating circuit breakers.

3.Use the start and stop pushbuttons for motor operation.

4.press the forward direction selector.

5. Stop the motor and then press the reverse direction selector to
change the rotation of the motor.
