Stainlists steel straw: blow to metal straws’ usage

Sarah pedojan

Plastic pollution is gradually dominating all over the world. As being affected, we are creating
and thinking for solutions that may possibly lessen and hinder such environmental issue. But against all
odds, metal straws as we expect to be an answer for this outranging phenomenon could bring us higher
costs.

Metal straws are common straws but is basically made of stainless steel that are reusable and
much eco-friendly than those which were made of plastics. These have been promoted all over the
world with their features that may serve as a great replacement for the old plastic straws that everyone
is using.

However, this have created another problem. As the percentage of plastic consumption lessens
from time to time, the demand for copper and nickel that are essential for making metals or stainless
steels, grows. This may eventually lead to massive deforestation and contamination of waters due to
nickel mining.

Meanwhile, the safety of this handy straw builds walls most especially for young ages in the
sense of its product design. It cannot be bent that may possibly cause fatal accidents to someone that is
using it.

Metals were also great conductor of heat. This means that heat could be transferred through
these tools that can be outright unbearable and may not be used for hot drinks.

Also, these kind of straws were how many times more expensive than the usual straw that we
know. According to an article written in Inquirer.net a decent one can cause more or less, 100 pesos for
a set of pieces. Though it may last long, the average number of people that will use it will cost so much
to spend for a daily or even weekly and business basis.

Nonetheless, among all the surrounding ways to protect our environment, the one with the
fastest growing raw material could be the best alternative. The option of using straws made of bamboo,
which is sustainable and abundant, could help prevent climate change and other possible effects of
producing products that somehow create just another consequences to untangle.
