MOTIVATION (s) IN LEARNING ENGLISH

I - It is generally assumed that learning depends on two main types of


motivation: intrinsic and extrinsic motivation

Extrinsic/external motivation Intrinsic/subjective motivation

Extrinsic motivation is that which comes from Intrinsic motivation is when the work itself
outside the task. For example, a person may stimulates and compels an individual to choose
learn to do something not because s/he finds the the task because the task by itself is fun and
task itself stimulating, but because learning it enjoyable. In this situation, there are no outside
would give access to something else s/he pressures; the person is intrinsically motivated to
wanted. execute the task.

II - In regard to the definitions above, explain both your extrinsic and


intrinsic motivations in learning English

On the other hand, I’m applying to business
schools. Therefore I have
to learn english because I must have a
good toeic score.  
On one hand, I want to learn english because I
can already speak 3 languages such
as arabic french and spanish  
In fact i love travelling and discovering
new cultures , so I want to become polyglot.

communication because before I didn’t express
my ideas as I want. Moreover, I have learned to
listen others and to manage my emotions.
