There are four workshop days spread out over the course of the semester for individual exploration.
These days provide you the opportunity to use the ideas you learned from our class and apply them
to a topic of your choosing.

Workshop Day 1 (Feb. 11th; Assignment Due: Feb. 16th): Visualization Exploration
Find three visualizations of interest to you (there are resources available on the course
website to help you locate a graphic). How do the characteristics of these visualizations align with
and/or challenge the Tufte readings from this week? Choose a different example from each
visualization demonstrating one takeaway from the readings. Craft a brief justification for your
assertions. Prepare an 8-minute presentation for the class with your findings. Please submit your
presentation to Sakai by Tuesday, the 16th at 11am and bring your completed assignment to class on
the 16th to share with peers. Your presentation may take any form of your choosing (i.e. handout,
poster, slides, prezi, canva, piktochart, powtoon, visme, tableau, narrative, drawing, other). During
class, you will share your project with a small group of peers and your presentation will be made
available to the class.
Grading Scale (5%)
Three visualizations were used and one 3%
example is identified from each graphic that
addresses a key idea from the reading.

The justification is logical and addresses each of 1%

the three examples identified.

The presentation thoughtful, clearly 1%

communicated, and includes relevant
information for relaying project findings.
