● Campylobacter jejuni (common)

● Campylobacter lari

b. General features
● Gram negative bacilli
● Comma shaped or S-shaped
● Non sporing
● Motile with single unsheathed polar flagellum at one or
both poles
● Microaerophilic
● Thermophilic
● Do not metabolize carbohydrate

2. Explain the transmission and clinical manifestations.


a. Transmission
● Fecal-oral route
● Contaminated food-milk.water,poultry

b. Clinical manifestations
● Starts with fever, abdominal pain,watery diarrhea
● Followed by bloody stools
● Campylobacter jejuni associated with Guillain Barre
syndrome, common cause of neuromuscular paralysis
