TRAINING ON PROCESS EQUIPMENT –

CENTRIFUGAL PUMP
DESCRIPTION
Centrifugal Pumps are used commonly in most process plants and is the first rotating equipment
that many plant people come across within their initial plant experience. As such, it would be ideal
to train new staffs (and some experienced staffs) with the correct understanding of the equipment
functionality and its design criteria. Regardless of years of plant operating experience, it is not a
surprise to know that most operators and engineers do not have good grasp of the equipment and
how the selection and design considerations are made during pump selection for process
operation. This training provides both fundamental knowledge about Centrifugal Pumps, and at
the same time shows how pumps are selected based on process hydraulics and how process
problems can be looked at from the technical point of pump design knowledge.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

 Understand the fundamentals of Centrifugal Pump design and how it relates to the pump
functionality in its process environment
 Able to select Centrifugal Pumps for new process hydraulics and understand pump process
datasheet
 Be able to verify changes in the process hydraulics with respect to existing pump performance
 Understand the pump Performance Curve and its limitations
 Able to relate pump problems and how to troubleshoot typical Centrifugal Pump problems

The training is designed to include participants with some engineering background and is suitable
for:
 Junior and senior engineers of chemical, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation background
 Senior technicians
 Managers with technical background

SPEAKER
Vigneswaran Kumaran is a Bachelor of
Engineering (Chemical) graduate from
University Malaya, has a Masters in Energy
Studies from University of Melbourne and is
a certified trainer with Human Resource
Development Fund, Malaysia. He has 18
years of experience in petrochemical process
operations and has served Petronas as a
process plant operator and technology
specialist while also providing technical
consultancy and process technology and
equipment trainings for industry patrons.

International Inc. and as process advisor for
HMC Polymers, Thailand. His specializations
include catalytic dehydrogenation /
hydrogenation, plant construction, pre-
commissioning and commissioning, training,
operations and process technology related
tasks and has been providing numerous
process operation trainings in the field.
Furthermore, Vigneswaran is a certified
Neuro Linguistic Programming Master
