Copyright MMZZHH © 2011 www.mmzzhh.com Given, The height of the wall = 9 5ft The width of concrete masonry unit = 8 in The average unit of masonry unit =90 psi The width of floor slab beam= 10 ft The weight of the floor slab = 50 psf The dead loads in the structural steel = 24 psf and 6 psf The total weight of the steel beam supports consists of the weights of the concrete masonry wall, floor slab, architectural finishes and electrical mechanical systems. The weight of these elements for 1 foot length is calculated below. The weight of the wall = (9.5 #)(1 #) (90 psf) = 855 lb/ft The weight of the floor slab is = (10 ft) (50 psf) = 500 lb/ft The dead load of structural steel framing, architectural finishes etc is = (10 ft)(24 psf) = 240 lb/ft The dead load of duets, piping etc is = (10 ft)(6 psf) = 60 lb/ft The total load per foot is = 855 + 500 + 240 + 60 = 1655 lb/ft We know that 1kips = 1000 Ib Thus the total load per foot is 1655 lb/ft or 1.655 kips /ft Therefore, the uniform dead load acting on the beam is 1.655 kips /ft
