SELF IN CYBERSPACE:

Digital literacy – the capabilities possessed by a person that is making a life by means of digital
society. Best example is person utilizing “FACEBOOK” to sell items and/or good. The seller should be
digital literate to be able to be successful in business.

In cyberspace, an individual sometimes or always speaks out his/her opinion thru social media.
Whether it is about his opinions, ideas, background knowledge depending on a certain topic posted in
social media and more likely to misbehave or say things that is uncalled for. This is called Online
Disinhibition. Lack of restraints when communicating online. Authority is minimized.

Types of disinhibition:

1. Benign Inhibition: showing kindness and helping others, speaking out emotions, fears, and
wished, combating loneliness through social interactions and finding emotional support. Best
example is the donation drive and spreading awareness how devasted the lives of people living
in Cagayan and Marikina because of Typhoon Ulysses.
2. Toxic inhibition: rude languages, harsh criticism, pornographic and violence, cyber bullying,
spreading rumors and fake news that will lead to false accusations.

To manage TOXIC INHINIBITIONS:

- Be careful on what to post/publish in social media.


- Do not talk to people that you know that will show toxic behavior
- Always consider the other person that will be reading the post.
- Consider possible reactions of the readers and viewers.

Social media can be a medium to showcase talents and abilities because a lot of people view the post, in
others words social media can be used to present yourself to other.

1. Self-promotion
2. Ingratiation
3. Exemplification
4. Intimidation
5. Supplication
