February 5, 2021
Honorable Blinken,
It’s with a sentiment of sadness and hope that I address you today on a subject that seems lingering in
the history of our nation Haiti for over two centuries. On behalf of the gratified and combative people
of Haiti and the members of the Political Party Force Démocratique Haïtien Intégré-FDHI, which I
proudly represent as the founder and General Secretary, I am seizing this opportunity to congratulate
the Biden-Harris Administration on their victory over anti-democratic villains and also applaud the
numerous American elected officials who support the interests of the people of Haiti, the Haitian
Diaspora and the safeguard of democratic stability in Haiti face to a possible reincarnation of
Dictatorship tendencies.
The situation with President Jovenel Moïse is unusual when compared with that of previous Presidents
in similar possible socio-political unrests in Haiti. The dreading campaign is not about to force him to
leave office but, it’s about reminding him that constitutionally, his mandate ends on February 7, 2021.
This conflict as you probably know is about the term limit of his administration which I fear will escalate
from both sides to violence never seen before. I am in no way requesting military assistance from the
US but, as an international mediator, I hope the United States of America will sensitively assist us
without inference in our autonomous efforts for a new Democratic Haiti. I am strongly encouraging the
Biden-Harris Administration to take appropriate diplomatic measures in considering first the interest of
the Haitian people and to immediately help de-escalate the situation in advising President Moïse to do
what is constitutional right, if he wishes history to be on his side.
We have overheard that the United States may have established interest in supporting a largely
contested Haitian President, Mr. Jovenel Moïse. If that should be true, we are kindly asking you Mr.
Secretary Blinken to re-evaluate and re-assess the situation so the United States won’t be an accomplice
to this insurgency which threatens the peace of the Caribbean nations.
Violence in Haiti, reality never resolves permanently our socio-political issues but, it has proven to show
and to demonstrate our dissatisfaction with past Haitian Governments as well as the Moïse-Jouthe
Government who seems to violate all forms of human rights with the intent to revive an authoritarian
system that the Haitian people have rejected over 35 years ago. This new generation of Haitians
deserves better than what the older generations have endured.
In a matter of days, I predict the situation will worsen and will impact our closest neighbours as Haitian
will attempt to flee their loving country again in a non-gratifying corner of their history. I urge you
Mr. Secretary Blinken to ask the Biden-Harris Administration and responsible legislators on our behalf,
to do what it’s right for the people of Haiti and to further prevent the US to take unnecessary costly
military expedient decisions that the people of Haiti will not see as the real solution to this crisis.
On behalf of the people of Haiti, the Haitian Diaspora and the members of the Political Party Force
Démocratique Haïtien Intégré-FDHI , I thank you for your understanding and immediate action.
Sincerely,
