English 1101 Plus

Course Description:
English 1101 Plus is a one credit class held each week on Zoom in which you will practice what
we learn in 1101 and further develop your reading and writing skills by learning grammar. You
will be free to ask questions, practice writing, receive one-to-one feedback from your teacher,
and learn general English composition skills. There will be no extra readings assigned in this
class hour and all writing will contribute to the 1101 section you are in. However, we will be
reading out loud and discussing readings in this class hour. This class hour is about you and what
you need to succeed. There will be no set schedule, but there will be a plan crafted for each class
period based on what you need to succeed.

Materials Needed:
Please bring your textbook (The Little Seagull Handbook, Bullock et al. 3rd Ed, Norton, 2017.)
and a notebook for writing in.

Specific Goals for Plus:

● Develop skills learned in 1101 and answer any questions resulting from 1101.
● Develop strategies for becoming a successful learner.
● Develop grammatical understanding.

Grading:
None of the assignments done in this class will be graded, they are for practice alone. However,
you will be graded on attendance and participation via Zoom. This hour is worth 20% of your
entire 1101 & 1101 Plus grade. You will be expected to participate in class discussion and all
parts of the reading and writing process. If you are sick and will be absent, contact me before
class via e-mail (hannahschaak@isu.edu).

What You Need To Do:

Every week we will meet at noon on Wednesday in the Zoom chat room labeled “Plus Meeting.”
You are responsible for making sure you attend the Zoom meeting during the scheduled time. If
this will be a problem for you, you are responsible for contacting me immediately. If, for any
reason, you are unable to attend a Plus section meeting you are responsible for contacting as
soon as possible. Plus meetings go from 12:00pm - 12:50pm on Wednesdays.
