Duration of the lesson: 45’

Objectives: At the end of this lesson the students will be able to:
- Read text correctly and understand,
-Differentiate hobbies, sports and other activities
-Construct sentences using Adverb of time and frequency

Warm up (5’)

Teacher asks the students: What do you do in your free time ?

Students respond individually: play football, skipping, listen musics, play cards, read novels,…

Teacher thanks the students then jumps for the next stage

Using a text Reading in a Class

During the reading stage, it is helpful for the teacher to keep on what strategies their students are
using independently or with some assistance. Comments are usually linked to the learning focus
but can also include an insightful moment or learning gap.

Activities before reading (8’)

Before reading, the teacher:

 Motivate students through activities that may increase their interest (book talks, dramatic
readings, or displays of art related to the text), making the text relevant to students in
some way.
 Activate students' background knowledge important to the content of the text by
discussing what students will read and what they already know about its topic and about
the text organization.

 Asks the students to name some hobbies and sports that they know

Students, with some help from the teacher they:

 Pay attention and establish a purpose for reading.


 Identify and discuss difficult words about sports and hobbies .
 Preview the text (by surveying the title, illustrations, and unusual text structures) to make
predictions about its content.
 Think, talk, and write about the topic of the text.

During – reading (15)

During reading, the teacher may:

 Remind students to use comprehension strategies as they read and to monitor their
understanding.
 Ask questions that keep students on track and focus their attention on main ideas and
important points in the text.
 Focus attention on parts in a text that require students to make inferences.
 Call on students to summarize key sections or events.
 Encourage students to return to any predictions they have made before reading to see if
they are confirmed by the text.

 Provide students with focus questions to help them make inferences and read between the
paragraph drilling them all class, group, pairs or one by one

 What activities are included in the text?

 Selects some difficulty words and write on chalkboard hobby, sport, to be able,
toguether….
 Integrates about adverb of time and adverb of frequency wring on chalkboard and
explaining how to use it. Adverb of time tells us when something happens or is done.

Eg: I was at school in the morning

I am now at home

Adverb of frequency tell us how often or seldom something is done

Eg: I always read English books

i never miss English lessons

Students, with some help from the teacher, may:

 Pay attention on teacher reading and summarize important ideas and supportive details.
 Make connections between and among important ideas in the text.
 Integrate new ideas with existing background knowledge.
 Ask themselves questions about the text.
 Sequence events and ideas in the text.
 Offer interpretations of and responses to the text.
 Check understanding by paraphrasing or restating important and/or difficult sentences
and paragraphs.
After Reading (10)’

The teacher:

 Guides discussion of the reading.


 Ask students to recall and tell in their own words important parts of the text.
 Offer students opportunities to respond to the reading in various ways, including through
writing, dramatic play, music, readers' theatre, videos or debate.

Students, with some help from the teacher they:

 Evaluate and discuss the ideas encountered in the text.


 Apply and extend these ideas to other texts and real life situations.
 Summarize what was read by retelling the main ideas.
 Discuss ideas for further reading.

Homework (2’)

Teacher writes homework on board and tells students to copy and do it home:

Name five activities that you do at school in the classroom and 5 activities in the school yard.

Now, copy the homework which you are going to present in the next lesson.

Sports and hobbies are important, too

At school sports are very important but so are sports. If we spend all our time learning we won’t
develop our other abilities. We need to be able to play together as well as learn together…
