IMPORTANCE OF RESEARCH

 High quality Medical Research is of immense value for the society. It can provide
important information about epidemiology i.e incidence, prevalence, risk factor of
common & deadly diseases in our community. This ultimately helps to develop
strategies for disease prevention.

 Research projects evaluate safety & efficacy of new medicines & interventions for
diseases in our community. The outcomes of these projects help to formulate guidelines
for better patient management.

 Research helps health care professionals to critically evaluate new evidence and provide
the best Patient care.

 World Health Organization describes attributes of a good doctor as 5-star doctor which
requires a doctor to be a researcher.

 Undergraduate Medical students have to conduct a mandatory research report during

fourth year of MBBS in order to acquire their degree.

 Undergraduate students of MLT and Physiotherapy also have to conduct research for
attainment of their degrees.

 Postgraduate residency programme through Central Induction Policy also gives due
weightage to research and has reserved 5 marks for two published original articles.

 Medical faculty at all levels of hierarchy is required to do original research and get it
published in accordance with criteria set by Pakistan Medical Commission.
