Case Study-02: Gaps in fencing and guarding

Objective: To audit and report the gaps present in the fencing and guarding of the machine.

Phenomenon: As a part of strengthening the safety down the supply chain, a safety audit of supplier was
carried out. During the audit several gaps in the fencing and guarding were identified which could lead the
potential injury. Some of the gaps identified are presented below.

Fencing is available in the belt drive of compressor, however, it is not fully enclosed and open from one
side. This side the exposed from where body part can injure and cause injury.
The gear drive in the machine was not guarded

The rotating part (motor coupling) is not guarded


The heating element of the injection moulding machine is not provided with suitable guards
Guard not available in the belt drive of the machine.
