The effectiveness of booktrack web application for teaching

narrative text toward senior high school students

Abstract
The use of multimedia in teaching English will encourage teachers to be more creative and will
make the students better enjoy the lesson. Booktrack is one of multimedia tool that can be used by
teacher to attract the students in the classroom. This study explored the effectiveness of booktrack
application for teaching narrative text toward the tenth-grade students of senior high school. In
order to achieve the objective of this research, a quasi-experimental study was designed and
implemented. The subject of this study were 70 students of the tenth grade of a senior high school:
35 students acted as the experimental group were taught narrative text by using Booktrack App
and the other 35 students as the control group were taught narrative text by using PowerPoint. The
finding of this study revealed that there was a significant difference between pretest and posttest
scores of the students in experimental group. Meanwhile, the post-test average score of
experimental group was higher than the control group. So, it can be said that booktrack application
is significantly more effective media to teach narrative text than PowerPoint. Based on the results,
it can be concluded that Booktrack App is effective as a medium in teaching reading
comprehension.
