Louis XIV -  

failed to address France's financial problems, instigated the French Revolution that
eventually descended on him, made problems worse by often escaping to more pleasurable
activities like hunting, he was locksmithing,  had Protestant churches effectively banned from
France, many converted to Catholicism, while others fled the country because of what he did ,
he overreached, particularly in foreign affairs, fought too many expensive wars, the wars he
fought France didn’t benefit from, ended up impoverishing the country to the point where he
died ruing how badly he had overspent on his wars.
