Functionalist perspective on education is to have a consensus perspective Society in terms of how it is

maintained for a common good. A functionalist will put emphasis on a positive aspect of school such as
socialization and the learning of skills and attitudes in schools. Education helps to maintain society by
socializing young people into values of achievement, competition and quality of opportunity. In
comparison conflict perspective do not believe that public schools reduce social inequality Rather they
believe that the education system reinforces and perpetuates social inequalities that arises from, class,
gender and ethnicity. Where functionalist see education as serving a beneficial role, conflict theorists
view it in a negative light. To them education push the status quo and push people of lower status into
obedience.
