La organizacién de esta Convencién ha sido un largo
Proceso en el que bastantes personas han colaborado
desinteresadamente. Desde aqui quisiéramos que constara
nuestro agradeciemiento.
A los organizadores de las anteriores Convenciones por su
apoyo y por intentar convencernos de que es un lio pero
compensa.
A los que se han dejado invitar por lo mucho que nos van a
ensefiar.
A los que altruistamente imparten talleres en la Convencion

exponer en la Convencién y diagramas para incluir en el
libro. De ellos aprenderemos.

Grupo de Papiroflexia de Barcelona Ni siquiera sabemos exactamente cémo nos embarcamos en esta aventura.
Muchos de los miembros del grupo de Barcelona ni siquiera hablamos entrado
en contacto con la AEP y plegabamos solos en casa, sin tener ni idea de lo
grande y agradable que es el mundo de la papiroflexia y la gente papiroloca.
Los mas veteranos si que recordamos cémo pusimos la excusa del Forum 2004
para ceder el puesto a Sevilla y su magnifica convencién. Asi pues, el grupo
tuvo mas de un afio para mentalizarse, y espontaneamente fuimos captando
mas gente y energias para organizar la VIII Convencién de la AEP que se
celebra en el Centro Marti Codolar del 12 al 15 de Mayo.
Aunque més de una ver se ha oldo en las reuniones preparatorias "iCémo se
Nos ha ocurrido meternos en semejante lio!”, la preparacién de un evento asi
aporta muchas satisfacciones, entre ellas la eleccién de los invitados o recibir
docenas y docenas de diagramas para el libro. Ademas nos ha obligada a
reunirnos muy a menudo y los lazos de amistad del grupo ya son
inquebrantables, y trascienden el hecho de Plegar juntos y compartir esta
aficion.
Una de las actividades preparatorias de la Convencion ha sido la organizacién
de la exposicién ‘Papirobiologia’ en Facultad de Biologia de la Universidad de
Barcelona, centrada en modelos de seres vivos, que conté con un gran impacto
meditico, y nos encadené durante varias semanas al hall donde estaban
expuestas las piezas, con entrevistas para emisoras de radio y reportajes de
televisién.
Muchas horas hay que dedicar para organizar una Convencién Internacional,
pero todas las muestras de carifio y apoyo que hemos recibido nos han
alentado a seguir adelante y esforzarnos al maximo para que disfrutdis de
vuestra estancia en Barcelona. Muchas gracias a todos por los animos! Vosotros
habéis sido el motor que nos ha mantenido en marcha todo el afio!
Uno de las cosas que creemos perduraré mas en el tiempo, aparte de los
recuerdos, después de esta Convencién es este libro de diagramas. Nos hemos
esforzado para que sea un buen libro y para ello hemos seleccionado los
mejores diagramas recibidos. Esperamos que lo disfrutéis, al igual que estos
dias que conviviremos en Barcelona.

Con este tipo de médulos se pueden construir figuras de todo tipo ya que
el modo de empalme es muy estable y permite distintas posiciones del médulo
ssn que se deshaga la figura. Lo ‘inico necesario es imaginacién y paciencia
para doblar y empalmar cientos de médulos.

Air Ship "Leonardo"
The myth of Leonardo da Vinci as the genius that, in the second half of the 15th
century, had already anticipated many discoveries of modern times, has been dis-
proved long ago. He simply recorded in many of his works the so far unwritten
‘ideas of his time and of older traditions all the way to antiquity. What is left is the
fascination with the sheer amount and diversity of the compiled material and the
‘many experiments he conducted. To the latter belong his prestudies on the princi-
ples of flight with paper airplanes and small hot air balloons made of paper.
A similar myth, also unfounded, is the one about the first manned balloon flight
with a hot air balloon of the Montgolfier brothers in 1783. The first provable aero-
nraut and designer of an "aeronautic machine” was the portuguese Father Barto-
lomeu Lourence de Gusmao. In 1709, he floated with his balloon build of paper to
tthe roof of the palace, before the eyes of the entire royal court.
Experiments with balloons were nat unusual around 1700. So itis quite possible
that undiscovered documents on manned balloon ascents are still slumbering
somewhere.
