Topic 4 Dq 1

Question,
Your next major assignment is the review essay. For this assignment, you will need to select a website and then compare the site
to a set of criteria.
There are five main criteria for evaluating websites as shown in this GCU Library
tutorial: https://lc.gcumedia.com/mediaElements/evaluating-websites-tutorial/v2.1/. Watch the tutorial and take notes about the
five criteria while you are watching it.

Which three of the five criteria do you find to be the most important? Do they seem like enough to evaluate a website? How
would you define each criterion? Why is each one important?

During the week, review your classmates’ posts and discuss similarities and differences between your response and your peers’
responses.

Answer,

The five guidelines for evaluating websites are authority, accuracy, objectivity, currency, and coverage. I would have to say that
authority, accuracy, and coverage are the most important to me. They lean very heavily on each other. When a website has factual
information and is cited it is unlikely that the website wouldn't be considered credible. Which is why I state that those three go
hand in hand. Authority is important because just like accuracy it has to do with validating if the information presented is credible
and is the platform used to publish these documents also reliable. Accuracy is very important because it lets you know that the
person who has written the piece has the credentials to do so. Also it lets you know that the proper qualifications to the website or
document has been met. Lastly, I think coverage is pretty important as well. I would consider this the final piece to the puzzle. It
allows you to see how well the information has been formulated and then presented. Such as in proper citations, links match and
does the website just overall flow.
