is the first supplement to the monograph that appeared as the
spring 1972 issue of the JRME. The foreword to the 1972 monograph
provides information on earlier MENC bibliographies.
It is recognized that not all the titles of dissertations offered for
degrees were available at press time. Those omitted will be carried
in future listings, as many earlier studies not previously reported
are carried in this compilation.
Where complete information is available, it is given in the fol-
lowing order: author's name; title of dissertation; number of pages;
degree earned; date degree was awarded; Library of Congress
number; abstract publication volume, number, and page.
Dissertation Abstracts includes the majority of completed dis-
sertations. Some institutions do not send all of their dissertations
to University Microfilms, which makes the listings incomplete.
American Doctoral Dissertations, also published by University Micro-
films, is a complete listing by field, author, title, and institution
of all doctoral dissertations completed in American and Canadian
universities. For information about dissertations not included in
Dissertation Abstracts, write to the institution conferring the degree.
