Week 4: Journal and Breakdown

8 February 2021- Make a bucket list of all of the things you want to do/experience/accomplish in your

lifetime.

Bucket List Items that are most important to me:

1. Get a hamster- I know. It’s totally random. Most people would ask, Did you just wake up one

day and decide you wanted to get a hamster, and I would answer yes. All of last week, I read

articles, watched videos, and took notes about hamsters. I’ve already bought most of the stuff that

it needs and the goal is to get the hamster, specifically a winter white hamster (dwarf hamster),

next week. This is one of the most important things on my bucket list because I just feel like it’ll

be nice to have company in my room. During quarantine, things can feel especially lonely and

sad, at least for me. It’s either that or I’m angry or I just isolate myself and realize it later.

Anyway, I would feel deeply disappointed and sad if I did not accomplish this goal because I’ve

prepared myself for this, I think, fairly well.

a. Steps to achieve this goal:

i. Research about hamsters- How to handle and care for them, as well as what they

eat, their behaviors, and more.

ii. Compile a list of things that you need for the hamster- Bedding, a suitable cage

with at least 450 square inches of floor space, food, food/water dishes or a water

bottle, chew toys, sources of enrichment, treats, sand bath, playpen, exercise

wheel, carrier cage/travel cage

iii. Purchase the items and set up the hamster home before buying the hamster

iv. Bring the hamster home and leave them alone for the first 2-3 or more days so

they can get used to being in a new environment. DO NOT pet them or handle

them often. Gradually get them used to your scent, behavior, etc. Train them,

bond with them, and treat them well!

2. Learn how to drive/get my driver’s license- This is one of the most important items on my

bucket list because I just think it is a lifelong skill that is useful. I’d also just like to get over the

fear I have of driving so I can go places without having to ask my parents to drive me somewhere

and pick me up. I think I would feel a bit disappointed in myself just because I’m tired of having

to bother my parents to get stuff for me and drive me/pick me up from places. No one is getting

any younger. I want to learn how to drive for myself and so I could lessen their load.

a. Steps to achieve this goal:

i. Study the driver’s handbook

ii. Get some practice done with someone who knows how to drive (such as a driving

instructor, your parent(s), relatives)

iii. Get your permit and then take the driver’s test!

3. Keep in contact with my closest friends once I graduate from high school- This is one of the

most important items on my bucket list because I value my handful of friends very much. They

have helped me during the toughest periods of my life and I treasure them because of this. I

would be deeply saddened if I did not follow through with this goal and I know they would feel

upset about it too.

a. Steps to achieve this goal:

i. Agree to remain friends and maintain contact

ii. Get their contact information and find out where they are going after high school

(staying in San Diego or out of state?)

iii. Plan to meet up every now and then. Check up on these close friends when you

have the chance but also be understanding and patient.
