Residence Project Outline – Step by Step Submissions

Pre Design
Details: ( Pre design research + Concept research, Primary + Secondary ( reading from magazines,
articles, websites etc, Interviews , questions etc))
Total 2 Case Studies One your own house , Other could be house of your friend /relative etc. or an
online case study
Case Study 1: where you are required to study your own house and look into the following parameters:
you are required to observe and analyze and write down the inferences against each parameter
You can also refer to the parameters mentioned in the excel sheet shared on WhatsApp.
1. Photograph of the house atleast 3-5 photographs of each room starting from entry door.
2. Circulation keeping in mind Anthropometric -data
3. Connectivity/Linkages between each space ( Public – private)
4. Overlapping spaces, spaces that are not used or highly used and why
5. Materials and finishes used
6. Colour schemes, textures and patterns used in the house.
7. Furniture and lighting Used
8. Rough layout of the house ( you can draw /sketch or else you can arrange for the drawing in
case if available)
Special features in the house (if any) like the entry door , may be a big painting etc etc.
Case Study 2: (online or through design magazines)
Read an article on residence design or a house featured in a design magazine/ezines/blog;
analyze and reflect on the styling elements used as per the concept.
Try to understand and then note How the total look has been created as per the design brief.
You can comment on space planning, color’s, textures, accessories, lighting etc. Prepare a report
using word document, use images from the article to emphasize on your point. Use your own
language.
Pre design will also include following :
 Reading /researching about how residences will change after pandemic
 Reading /Research- questions , interview / observation /recording related to the client
information and requirements .
 Reading and Research related to the concept that you will be developing.

Design ( Concept Development + Execution )

Details: Design a residence for the chosen client and the location for the given site . You are required
to develop the following
Part 1: Client Brief +Design brief :
a) Based on the pre design research , develop your design brief, Elaborate Design brief and work
on the activities and list down the requirements of the Space for your chosen client.
b) Develop a Concept and a Detailed Concept Statement, keeping in mind the final design brief.
c) Mood Board/Style board, Colour board, Element Board

Part 2: Process sheets:

(Drawings, sketches and diagrams representing the entire design Process, bubble diagrams showing
spatial relationships, connections, flow, circulation etc, zoning diagrams)
 
Part 3: Concept sketches of elements/ideas for design and décor for spaces finalized. Explaining the
design for each room. ( you can sketch elevations and explain what is happening on all the four walls
of each room.

Part 4: Design of Washroom (interpreting the space in terms of the overall design concept)

Part 5: Presentation Drawing:

Rendered Furniture Layout Plan (manual or digital) & Rendered Elevations (any one room all four walls )
explaining the concept application in that room.

Part 6 : Working Drawings

Working drawing of “ layout plan with door window schedule and furniture schedule with proper
dimensions and labelling.

Working Drawing – Elevations one mandatory and rest optional

Working Drawing – Two flooring plans one for the bedroom and the other for the living room

All above will done using different software’s ( Autocad , Photoshop + Powerpoint).
Final Documentation and submission .
The project document will have a cover page to be designed by the student along with title of the
project , student name course and year properly mentioned . After cover page there should be a
content sheet.
