1. Human trafficking is an egregious human rights violation that occurs throughout the
world. Human trafficking and human smuggling are not the same and often are
confused. Trafficking is based on exploitation of an individual whereas smuggling is
the importation of individuals with deliberate evasion of immigration laws. However,
individuals smuggled into the country are at risk of becoming victims of human
trafficking because fear of deportation, economic hardship, and limited language
proficiency can be used to exploit them.
In the light of the above statement critically discuss the problem of human trafficking
and human smuggling in transnational context. Also discuss the reasons for such crimes
and the measures which could appropriately be taken in order to combat such crimes.
(Marks 30)
2. Transnational organized crime is considered to be a changing and flexible phenomenon.
While on one hand globalization has triggered easier and faster communication,
movement of finances and international travel, it has also created opportunities for
criminal groups to flourish, diversify and expand their activities. Organized crime today
affects all States, whether as countries of supply, transit or demand. As criminal
networks span the globe, efforts to combat them must likewise cross borders.
In the light of the above statement while explaining the evolution and development of
transnational crime discuss its nature and scope. How far you subscribe to the view that
this crime has spread exponentially due to globalization and economic liberalization?
Comment. Also suggest measures to combat transnational organized crimes.
