Seminar Reflection for 03 December 2020

Today’s seminar Dr. Jonathan Mack attended and discussed the new changes that have

taken place on the campus and in the state of California due to COVID-19. We talked about the

increased rate of infection around the country and the implementation of the vaccines that will

soon be released. Because of the increase in the number of infections, it will soon be required

that all students at USD be testing weekly if you are doing clinicals at a participating healthcare

facility. Those test results will have to be reported back to the school and the clinical site in

order to keep progressing in your clinical experience.

We also had Jared Vogt talk about his experience as an analyst after his graduation from

the health care analytics program. He explained how his track to management was sculpted by

him taking positions that put him outside of his comfort zone. His road was paved by positions

that were not necessarily what he was looking for but were very informative and crucial in

making him the manager that he is today. The take home is to make sure you know what you

want and don’t be afraid to work out of your element; the goal is to be an active member of the

team to get a job done. This will help you learn things that you wouldn’t have normally been in

a position to do and allow you to build new skills that you will use in your career as you continue

in the field.
