Overview
STATE – a community of persons, more or less numerous,
occupying a definite territory, possessing an organized
government, and enjoying independence from external
control. (Elements: People, Territory, Government, and
Sovereignty)
Overview
GOVERNMENT – machinery of the State that carries out its
will, purposes, and objectives; body that makes, interprets,
and enforces the policies or laws in the State.

Banks
- institution that help us keep our money, avail different
kinds of loan, and exchange currencies
- NOTE: There are also state-owned and controlled banks.
- Question: What’s the difference between state and non-
state banks?
Corporations
- juridical person = non-human legal identity
- provide job opportunities to number of workers in the
country
Trade Unions
- association of workers in a particular trade, industry, or
company created for the purpose of securing
improvements in pay, benefits, and working conditions,
through collective bargaining.
Cooperatives
- people with common interest who agreed to work
together for easy, safe, and affordable access to
commodities, loans, and other services.
- “members-only” privileges
Development Agencies
- agencies which help develop and support economic
growth by providing necessary resources and assistance
(e.g. bridge that connects one province to another, road
construction that helps ordinary farmers transport their
products, sources of water, livelihood projects, etc.)
Civil Organizations
- also known as “civil society”
- organizations that act in the public's interest but are not
motivated by profit or government (NGOs)
Advocacy Groups
- national or an international organization that promotes
and advocates progress and development related to
particular issues of the society
- influence the government to take action on matters
commonly neglected
