MAST SHIELD

T o perform m a i n t e n a n c e to certain areas of the mast or


platform a s s e m b l y , it m a y be necessary to remove the mast
shield. T h e m a s t shield is m o u n t e d in rubber molding so that
it is fully s u s p e n d e d . T h e molding and safety glass should be
a s s e m b l e d as s h o w n in Illustration 9-5. T h e w e d g e locking
strip must be p r e s s e d into the o p e n groove to secure the
glass in place.

A special tool, w e d g e insertion tool, (Crown 103792) will


greatly aid in the installation of the w e d g e locking strips. T o
use the tool:

1 . Feed the strip t h r o u g h the throat of the tool h e a d (see


Illustration 9-5) leaving a p p r o x i m a t e l y 25 m m (1 in.) of
strip e x p o s e d b e n e a t h t h e h e a d .

2. I nsert the tool into the " V slot in the m a i n molding body.

3. O n c e started, with both the strip a n d body e n d s flush,


c l a m p the e n d with y o u r t h u m b a n d p u s h the tool
t h r o u g h t h e slot.

If the tool s e e m s to push relatively h a r d , apply a little heat to


the m o l d i n g . T h i s will liquefy the film which covers the
molding a n d act as a rubber lubricant.

As the roll pin is r e m o v e d , the spring t e n s i o n will be


transferred to the s p a n n e r w r e n c h . Y o u will h a v e to

T h e side thrust rollers located on the back of the platform


should be adjusted to have 0.75 m m (0.030 in.) c l e a r a n c e
with I-beam flange on e a c h side of the 2nd stage mast w h e n
the platform is completely lowered. Turn the c a m shafts until
the rollers have this c l e a r a n c e . Raise the platform to assure
there is no binding of the side thrust rollers through the total
length of the 2 n d stage mast.
