Space Raiders…
Radio plays paint pictures with sound. In a radio play you can
go from being on top of a mountain to the bottom of the sea
in two seconds without worrying about changing your
costume or the scenery. All you need are SOUND EFFECTS.
In this play you will need to use SOUND EFFECTS to tell
your story.
You each play a character and create SOUND EFFECTS .
Cast list…
Actor 1 = Captain Blast (Human) – Lots to say.

Actor 2 = First Officer Smith (Human) – Lots to say.

Actor 3 = Captain Bluuuuurgh (Alien) – Not too much to say.

Actor 4 = First Officer Schmuuuuurk (Alien) & Narrator – Not too

much to say.

Scene One
The THEME TUNE plays over the top of the Narrator’s
speech.
Narrator: The year is 2211. Holidays in outer space are big business
and make big bucks. Everyone wants to have their summer
holiday on some new, exotic planet. Captain Blast and the
crew of the Starship Alpha have just discovered a new world
that seems to be a perfect holiday destination.
SPACESHIP SOUNDS
Blast: First Officer Smith! We’re going to be rich! Look at this
amazing new planet I’ve just found. It’s got everything you
could need for a holiday.
Smith: That’s right, sir. It’s got mountains in the north for skiing.
Blast: Brilliant.
Smith: Tropical beaches around the equator for sun bathing.
Blast: Marvellous.

Smith: It’s even got massive rocky deserts crawling with giant
rattlesnakes.
Blast: Ooh, that sounds awful!
Smith: Yes, but at least it’s not too touristy.
Blast: True.
BLEEPING NOISE.
Smith: Someone’s trying to speak to us, sir.
Blast: Let’s hear them then.
ANOTHER BLEEPING NOISE.
Bluuurgh: Splaw schmmmaw schqwaaa.
Blast: I can’t understand a word of that.
Smith: I’ll put it through the translator.
A DIFFERENT BLEEPING NOISE.
Bluuurgh: (An evil sounding voice comes over the speakers) I repeat, I
claim this planet in the name of Dogstar Hoildays.
Blast: Oi, you can’t do that! I claim this planet in the name of
Quickbreak Holidays.
Bluuurgh: Too late. I saw it first.
Blast: No, wait! Ummmm… I challenge you to a race!
Bluuurgh: Very well. The first creature to put a flag on top of the highest
mountain gets to claim the planet.
Blast: May the best man win.
Bluuurgh: No! May the best hairy jellyfish win!
Blast: What?
Bluuurgh: That’s what we look like.
Blast: Oh.
BLEEPING NOISE TO SHOW THAT THE SIGNAL HAS
ENDED.
Blast: Quickly Smith, turn on the transporters and beam us to the
top of the highest mountain!
Smith: Yes, sir!

TRANSPORTER BEAM.
BEACH NOISES.
Blast: Well done, Smith. Now we just need to plant the flag in…
Hold on. This doesn’t look very mountainy to me. There’s too
much sea and sand.
Smith: Oh, sorry sir! Wrong co-ordinates. I’ll try again.
TRANSPORTER BEAM.
DRIPPING CAVE NOISES.
Blast: Oh come on, Smith. This is a cave not a mountain. Try again.
Smith: Yes, sir. Sorry, sir.
TRANSPORTER BEAM.
Blast: Well this is nice. Not too touristy. I wonder where we are?
GIANT RATTLESNAKE NOISE.
Smith: I’ll have another go!
Blast: Quickly!
TRANSPORTER BEAM.
WIND NOISE.
Blast: Well done, Smith! We’re here at last!
Bluuurgh: You’re too late, Captain Blast. My First Officer Schmuurk is
about to plant my company’s flag.
Blast: Stop him, Smith! Hit him with our flag!
Smith: Yes, sir!
THE NOISE OF A HAIRY JELLYFISH BEING HIT WITH A
FLAG.
Schmuurk: Owwww! Nobody hits First Officer Schmuurk. Take that!
SOUND OF A HUMAN BEING HIT WITH A FLAG.
Smith: Owwww! That does it. Take this!
SOUND OF TWO CREATURES ARMED WITH FLAGS
FIGHTING.
Blast: Ummmm… Captain Blaaargh…
Bluuurgh: It’s Bluuurgh actually.

Blast: Sorry, Captain Bluuurgh while those two idiots fight it out,
maybe we could find a compromise?
Bluuurgh: I suppose so. What did you have in mind?
Blast: Well, how about we split the planet between us? I’ll take the
mountains and the beaches…
Bluuurgh: And what do I get?
Blast: Well, I know this really nice, quiet place. Not too touristy.
THEME TUNE
Narrator: And so the two Captains became good friends… until
Captain Bluuurgh was eaten by a giant rattlesnake.
SOUND OF CAPTAIN BLUUURGH BEING EATEN BY A
GIANT RATTLESNAKE.
