BAR BENDING SCHEDULE

General Notes:

1. #3 bar i.e. 3/8” dia bar, Grade-40 (Yield Strength = 40,000 psi). Generally used for rings/stirrups in
columns and beams.

2. #4 (1/2”), #5 (5/8”), #6 (3/4”) and #8 (1”) dia bars, Grade 60 (Yield Strength = 60,000 psi).

3. Bar Hooks:

ACI 318 (318M): 90 degree bend: at least 12 dia of bar.


For stirrups/ties: at least 6 dia of bar but not less than 3 inches.

4. Lap length of bars generally is 48 dia of bar (48d) or 50 dia of bar (50d).

5. Cut length of bar = (Outer to Outer length of any structure) – (cover on both sides)
+ 2 X (Bend length i.e. 12 dia of bar)

6. Cut length of stirrups/ties = 2 X (dimension of one side + dimension of other side)


+ 2 X (Bend length i.e. 3 inches)

7. No of bars = (Outer to Outer length of any structure) – (cover on both sides)
