Simple Indoor Opening Flag Ceremony for Cub Scouts

The leader(s) can be one or more members of the den (preferred), a Den Chief, or an adult
leader.

Leader: “Will the Audience please rise?”


The audience rises.
Leader: “Color Guard, POST THE COLORS. SCOUT SALUTE.”
Scouts carry the US & Pack or den flags walking double file. (see the diagram above for
formation). Those in uniform do a hand salute. Everyone else places their hand on their heart.
Leader: “Please join us in the Pledge of Allegiance. I pledge allegiance …”
The audience says the Pledge of Allegiance.
Leader: “TWO.”
Everyone stops saluting.
Leader: “Color guard, retreat.”
The color guard walks back out double-file to wait at the back of the room.
NOTES:

 The US flag and other flags (ie Pack flag or Den flag) start in the back of the room. The US
flag should be on the right side of the procession and should never be behind the other
flags. When they come to the point where the flags must cross, the US flag should cross in
front of the other flags.
 The US flag should be displayed on its own right, as shown in the diagram.
Simple Closing Flag Ceremony for Cub Scouts

The leader(s) can be one or more members of the den (preferred), a Den Chief, or an adult
leader.
Leader: “Color Guard, Advance.”
The Color Guard goes to the front of the room and stands next to the flags, with the same
number at each flag.
Leader: “Color Guard, Retrieve the Colors. Scout Salute.”
The Color Guard removes the flags from their stands and proceeds out of the room double-file as
shown in the diagram. Those in uniform do a hand salute. Everyone else places their hand on
their heart.
Leader: “TWO.”
Everyone stops saluting.
NOTES:

 The US flag should always be on the right side of the procession and should never be
behind the other flags.
 It is appropriate to salute any time the US flag passes and until it is out of sight.

Simple Flag Folding Ceremony for Cub Scouts


The leader(s) can be one or more members of the den (preferred), a Den Chief, or an adult
leader.

Leader: "Color Guard, Bring the Colors Forward."

The Color Guard goes to the front of the room. One Scout carries the folded flag as shown in the
following photograph:

Leader: "Color Guard, Unfold the Colors."

Two Scouts retrieve the flag from the Scout holding it, and carefully unfold the flag. After it is
unfolded it should be held above the floor, facing the audience, with the union to the audience's
left.

Scout(s): "Behold the emblem of our country—our flag. May it always represent the highest ideals
of the American people. May its stars and stripes always support democracy in America."

Leader: "Color Guard, Fold the Colors."

The Scouts holding the flag carefully fold it and return it to the Scout who entered with it.

Leader: "Color Guard, Retreat."

The Scouts return to the back of the room with the flag.
