Good Enough to Eat!

Who doesn’t love a delicious buffet with lots of food and desserts to choose from? But imagine a
buffet with a cheese sculpture of a woman, a giant chocolate picture, bread in the shapes of people or
thousands of biscuits that look like a scene in a city street. People can see a buffet just like this at
the Experimental Food Society Spectacular. This yearly event brings together the best in food
artists from bread, butter, cheese and chocolate sculptors to food landscape artists and
performers. This isn’t a typical food exhibition with top chefs and restaurants cooking up their best
dishes. This is a day long event that showcases today’s most talented food artists. It’s the creation
of The Food Experimental Society. According to the society’s founder, Alexa Perrin, the Food
Experimental Society’s goal is to promote food as a serious art form. Their idea is not to make
strange things out of food but to see food in a creative way.
At the event, visitors get the chance to view the amazing artworks and to taste them. They can
also watch some of the artists as they create their own works of art and get tips from them on how
to get experimental in the kitchen. And that’s not all. There are also music and dance
performances for visitors to enjoy.
A highlight of the exhibition is the landscape art such as the “foodscapes” of food artist and
photographer Carl Warner who creates magical lands from food such as broccoli, bread, meat and
bananas. And chocolate lovers should not miss the amazing creations of chocolate painter Sid
Chidiac who makes amazing chocolate portraits. Cake sculptor, Louise Hill, also presents desserts
in a new way. Her creations are very realistic and detailed. There is even an extraordinary section
for children with artworks that capture their imaginations.
Unlike most art events, the artists here don’t sell their work or even win a prize for the best
artwork. This event concludes with the guests really experiencing the artwork through a five course
meal featuring many of the food art creations. It’s a unique dining experience that no other
restaurant or food festival can offer.
