Brief description of Activity/Procedures
Prep: Fill the glasses 3/4ths of the way up with water. If the children are very
young,
Activity:
The children will first make a hypothesis about what they think will happen to the
orange. Then, have them gently put their orange into the glass. Next, have them
take the orange out and unpeel it. Allow the students to make another hypothesis
with the unpeeled orange. Then, have them put the unpeeled orange in the glass
and watch it sink. Lead a class discussion on how the difference of peeling the
orange affected its buoyancy.
