Don’t Let the Tower

Fall!
Purpose: To strengthen and refine number
sense and computation skills through addition,
subtraction, multiplication, and division problems all
while competing in the intense game of Don’t Let the
Tower Fall!

1. Students will build up a tower of colored blocks

that correspond to different mathematical problems
2. taking turns, each student will carefully remove a
block and solve a problem, and replace the block
on the top of the tower
3. If the student does not answer correctly, another
student gets to “steal” the problem, and gets a
chance to solve it and replace the block on top of
the tower!
4. Winner is the last person who answered a question
correctly before the tower fell!

-Make a list of addition and subtraction problems (or use your
student’s homework problems) ranging in difficulty, and assign
each problem to a number, then randomly pick numbers out of a
jar, and solve or make flash cards with the problems using index
cards and quiz your students! Or go to your local grocery store
and get free cardboard boxes to make your own tower!
-Questions to ask during the game:
How did you solve this problem?
How could you have solved this mentally?
How else could you have solved this problem?
